Definition
This is a full-time (Technicians) position in the City's Public Works Department. An individual in this position will perform detailed Right-of-Way and other construction inspections, plan reviews, permit reviews, to determine soundness and compliance with specifications, building codes, the City’s Public Infrastructure Design Manual, and other regulations as applicable. Will aid in supervisory role to inspection team. Reporting relationship: Assistant City Engineer.
Examples of Work
- Review and provide comments on plan sheets, plats, ROW Permits, and other documents for accuracy and compliance with applicable standards and codes; perform engineering calculations; research information; and write reports on findings.
- Conduct field inspections; evaluate conditions of construction and ROW permit compliance; enforce all construction codes and regulations; generate reports on findings; recommend field changes to City Engineer; and approve or deny sites;
- Respond to complaints via email, telephone, fax, or web portal; meet with citizens to assess complaints; document and photograph sites;
- Reviews and performs industry-standard markups in Adobe X Pro, Bluebeam Revu, or other equivalent computer software;
- Conduct Pre-Construction Meetings for new ROW projects, commercial and residential development projects, utility improvement projects, and any other applicable projects as assigned;
- Report problems to appropriate departments; assess and advise of proper repairs; inspect and approve repairs; inform citizens of progress; submit reports; and conduct research as needed;
- Coordinate with Municipal Utility Districts (MUDs), Levee Improvement Districts (LIDs), third party engineers, and other personnel throughout the plan review and construction process;
- Perform administrative duties; file reports, forms and submittals; maintain files and reports; and examine lab test results and packets from project engineers;
- Aid in training and supervisory oversight of junior inspector(s);
- Perform other related duties as assigned;
- Subject to 24-hour recall.
Education, Experience, or Certification
High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) Certificate and a minimum of eight (8) years of relevant professional experience required. Proficiency in Bluebeam is desired.
Must obtain a National Institute Certification in Engineering Technologies in Construction Material Testing Certification within one (1) year of employment.
A Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management or a closely related field, from an accredited college or university is desired.
