Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Quality Inspector to join our team at our facility in Houston, TX, 77015.

The Senior Quality Inspector inspects and tests Bus duct, Low and Medium voltage Motor Control, Low and Medium voltage Switchgear and PCR. Four 10s schedule: Monday-Thursday 6:00am-4:30pm

To Inspect and Test Bus duct, Low and Medium voltage Motor Control, Low and Medium voltage Switchgear and PCR. To perform these tests if necessary for Powell Customers and/or their representatives during witnessed customer inspections.

Purpose of Position

The purpose of the Senior Quality Assurance Mechanical Inspector is to primarily act as the hold for disposition material (HFD) inspector and to ensure that calibration activities are carried out in accordance with our quality management system. The primary responsibilities include evaluating materials held for disposition, entering, and maintaining data in the HFD and calibration database, and ensuring that the disposition of HFD and calibration activities are executed as planned.

Additional duties will include maintaining quality graphs and providing any requested output reports on part discrepancies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and manage the HFD database for nonconformance items.

  • Investigate discrepant supplier items and determine the appropriate course of action.

  • Coordinate HFD closure with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring follow-through of corrective actions to closed status.

  • Issue weekly reports to communicate with purchasing, production, and engineering about discrepant supplier items.

  • Participate in and support production meetings to report on the status of HFD.

  • Manage HFD locations in the calibration lab area.

  • Maintain and generate quality graphs and reports.

  • Train shop personnel involved in creating HFDs on the proper procedures.

  • Regularly analyze current processes and workflows to identify areas for improvement.

  • Implement process changes that increase efficiency and reduce waste.

  • Work cross-functionally with different departments to reduce nonconformities in manufactured and purchased parts.

  • Collect and analyze data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.

  • Prepare and present reports on improvement initiatives and outcomes.

  • Engage with employees at all levels to encourage input and participation in processes to reduce defects (HFD).

  • Perform and/or coordinate equipment and tool calibrations.

  • Maintain and manage calibration records in the database.

  • Manage outside equipment and tool calibrations to optimize turnaround time.

  • Obtain and manage equipment calibration certifications.

  • Maintain an out-of-tolerance nonconformity log and ensure all out of tolerance (OTN) reports are available.

  • Create requisitions for any needed materials.

  • Ensure work instructions are updated as required.

  • Relationships

  • Report to Quality Assurance Manager

  • Interact with all departments to achieve mutual, agreeable, and effective problem resolutions.

  • External interface with other Powell Divisions when necessary

  • External relationships involve regular interaction with equipment calibrators, Equipment manufacturers and suppliers.

Requirements

  • Basic metrology skills.
  • Basic mathematical skills required.
  • Ability to regularly interact with management and shop personnel.
  • Able to apply product knowledge and technical skills to solve manufacturing discrepancies and achieve product improvements.
  • Computer skills including Oracle, Word, Excel,PowerPoint, and AccessSharePoint.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, symbols, and GD&T designations.
  • Able to perform equipment and tool calibrations.
  • Maintain and manage calibration and HFD records in the database.
  • Manage outside equipment and tool calibrations to optimize turnaround time.
  • Obtain and manage equipment calibration certifications.
  • Adept at company policies, procedures, safety rules, work instructions, and ISO program.
  • Acquire in-house and external training.

Working Environment

The employee typically performs duties in a normal office environment. There will be some work in a shop environment and exposure to the elements of our shop. Additionally, there may be some work performed in the field with exposure to construction sites or active customer facilities.

Experience and Education

High School Diploma or equivalent

Minimum 3-5 years experience in the industrial electrical field

Basic Knowledge of electrical theory.

Fluent in English with good written and verbal communication skills.

Familiar with the used of test equipment such as multi meter, clamp-on meter, voltage detector, etc.

Basic computer skills using Word, Excel and Access.

Knowledge of National Electric Code

Able to read and interpret electrical symbols, characters, and drawings.

Ability to apply industry standards as applicable to job and products
