The Opportunity

The Senior Human Resources Manager leads and directs the functions of the Human Resources (HR) department including overseeing compensation and benefits administration, talent management, HR compliance, and employee relations and development. In a growing company (fewer than 50 employees), the Senior HR Manager will strengthen HR functions to support the company’s growth, while creating a work environment that supports employee well-being and engagement. The successful candidate will report to the Managing Director and collaborate with executive leadership to promote KonTerra’s vision and values across the workforce.

This is a remote, full-time role that will typically operate during EST (Eastern Standard Time) business hoursand perform these, and other essential duties as required:


What You’ll Do

HR Operations, Strategy and Management:

  • Develop and implement HR strategies and initiatives aligned with overall business strategy
  • Support current and future business needs through development, engagement, and motivation of KonTerra employees.
  • Develop clear policies and ensure policy awareness
  • Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in Human Resources, talent management, and employment law; apply this knowledge to communicate changes in policy, practice, and resources to executive leadership.
  • Supervise full-time HR Generalist.
  • Advise and support full-time Recruiter working under another line manager.

Compliance:

  • Develop and provide HR policy guidance and interpretation in support of an inclusive and equitable culture that allows KonTerra to attract talented professionals.
  • Monitor and ensure the company’s compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; review and modify policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Maintain and report on workplace health and safety compliance matters
  • Manage annual OFCCP compliance and reporting as necessary, such as VETS-4212, EEO-1, and any other reports necessary based on the size of the organization or contracts won.

Sourcing and Recruitment:

  • Manage the sourcing and recruitment process required to achieve business goals and support company growth.
  • Manage full life cycle recruitment (post, source, prescreen, schedule, background, references, offer, onboarding, etc.).
  • Ensure new hires are fully oriented to the organization post-hire
  • Create and maintain an environment of equal employment opportunity, diversity and competitive advantage in support of the company's diversity and equity goals.

Employee Development and Employee Relations:

  • Provide high level advice and guidance to managers and staff to support effective feedback and staff development.
  • Maintain and execute the performance management system, including current job descriptions, standards of performance and performance evaluation instruments.
  • Oversee learning and development programs that enhance employee skills, career growth, and leadership development.
  • Manage employee grievances, conduct investigations, and assist managers and their staff with conflict resolution as necessary.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Maintain compensation and benefits programs that support the organization’s ability to attract, retain, and motivate employees, while ensuring internal equity and external competitiveness.
  • Manage external partners such as benefits vendors, and insurance brokers

The Skills and Experience You’ll Need

  • Must have at least seven years of relevant Human Resources experience, including two years of experience managing staff.
  • Demonstrated experience working with small organizations to mature their Human Resources operations.
  • Excellent leadership, consultation, mentoring, and customer service skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as an effective team member.
  • Experience designing, developing and supporting organization-wide talent management programs that cover performance management, talent development, coaching, succession planning, and relationship management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to building equitable and inclusive cultures.
  • Comfort using Microsoft Office and Google Workspace platform to communicate and collaborate.
  • Working knowledge of an ATS/HRIS (Applicant Tracking and Human Resources Information System), preferably BambooHR.

Education and Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Current HR credentials SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR highly preferred.

  • Experience working in the international humanitarian and development sector.
  • Experience working for a U.S. government contractor preferred, knowledge of USAID contracts highly preferred.

The pay range for this role allows for the wide variety of factors that are considered in making
compensation decisions including, but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, certifications, and other business and organizational needs. At KonTerra, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $100,000 to $120,000. The actual salary offered for this role will be based on a variety of factors, including location, internal equity and the candidate’s qualifications and professional experience.
