Senior HR Manager Summary:

UFP Technologies is seeking a self-motivated Sr. Human Resources (HR) Manager with the ability to drive people initiatives in our US manufacturing sites. Reporting directly to the VP of HR, this position offers the opportunity to join a rapidly growing, dynamic medical product manufacturing company that provides competitive compensation, benefits, and career growth in a collegial, entrepreneurial environment.

In this role, you will work collaboratively with our site HR and business partners to develop and execute the HR strategy. You will be responsible for a wide range of HR duties with a strong emphasis on talent acquisition and management, succession planning, and employee relations (performance management, progressive discipline, investigations, leave administration, and ADA reasonable accommodations).

The ideal candidate should possess exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to manage other HR professionals and administrative staff, a comprehensive understanding of HR practices and employment laws, conflict management skills, and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with utmost professionalism.

Location / Travel: Must live within commutable distance to UFP’s Corporate Headquarters in Newburyport, MA. The role requires the ability to travel to US sites routinely (up to 15%) for consistent presence and site audits.

Senior HR Manager Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Builds and maintains strong partnerships with site HR and business partners, Corporate HR functional teams, and leadership.
  • Drives HR programs, policies, and initiatives to meet stated business objectives and to ensure smooth company HR operations across the sites.
  • Develops HR metrics to measure performance.

Liaison to Site HR and Business Partners

  • Provides HR leadership, mentorship, and guidance to all site HR and business partners to enable success in their respective sites. Understands and communicates key performance indicators the team is responsible for delivering.
  • Identifies, creates, and leads sharing of HR best practices with site HR partners.
  • Oversees the training and development of site HR partners. Partners with site leaders and Corporate HR on career path opportunities for site HR partners.
  • Supervises and provides directional support where needed to the site HR partners for the day-to-day inquiries pertaining to HR related matters.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local legal requirements by reviewing existing and new legislation, anticipating legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, as well as advising site HR and business partners on needed actions.
  • Stays current with latest HR trends, federal and state laws, and regulations. Ensures consistent, timely, and accurate application to ensure compliance and make recommendations for policy updates and changes.
  • Plans, conducts, and reports on HR site audits to identify potential process enhancements and opportunities.

Talent Acquisition, Development and Management

  • Manages talent acquisition strategy for the company to recruit and retain top caliber talent.
  • Partners with Sr. HRBP of Talent Development to provide training to site HR partners and management on policies, processes, and regulations.
  • Partners with Sr. HRBP of Talent Development to develop and create training programs for site HR partners and managers on employee relations topics, such as conflict resolution, communication skills, and harassment prevention.
  • Works closely with site HR partners and business leaders to identify and develop HiPOs.
  • Partners with site HR partners and Corporate HR to drive UFP’s Summer Intern / Co-op programs.
  • Facilitates the performance management process with site HR partners in pursuit of a culture of accountability and results-orientation, linking organizational and employee performance.

Succession Planning

  • Partners with site leaders / department heads and site HR partners to create and implement meaningful succession strategies and development plans that continue to feed and grow the talent pipeline.

Employee Relations

  • Serves as the primary point of contact on employee relations matters for site HR partners. Provides guidance and consultation to site HR partners on employee relations matters, including coaching, counseling, and conducting workplace investigations including harassment, discrimination, and other policy violations, and provides recommendations for corrective action.
  • Ensures sites foster a positive work environment and address employee concerns or conflicts promptly and effectively.
  • Plans and facilitates information sharing sessions on relevant employee relations topics for site HR partners and managers.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains comprehensive leave policies and procedures including FMLA, ADA, and other applicable state or federal leave regulations, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and providing support to site HR partners, as well as assuring coordination of benefits with Corporate Benefits & Payroll Manager.
  • Drives accurate and timely completion of Affirmative Action Plans. Ensures compliance at the site level.

Senior HR Manager Qualification Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field. Relevant certifications (e.g., SHRM-SCP, PHR) are preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in Human Resources, with a focus on multi-site/state management, talent acquisition and development, performance management, employee relations, leave administration, and ADA reasonable accommodations.
  • Minimum of 5+ years supervisory experience within an HR department.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, including FMLA, ADA, FLSA, and AA/EEOC.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with other Corporate HR functions and departments.
  • Proven experience in managing complex employee relations issues with a track record of successful resolutions.
  • Demonstrated sense of urgency, with strong organization and muti-tasking skills.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and decision-making abilities with a customer-service focus.
  • Proficient in HRIS systems (ADP WFN) and Microsoft Office Suite.
