Job Opportunity:

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Human Resource Generalist. This is an on-site position, preferably in our New York location, but Boston and Atlanta will be considered. This newly developed position will provide HR consultation and strategic support to designated product line areas while also being hands on in day-to-day execution. The incumbent will also be responsible for multiple HR generalist activities including recruiting, onboarding, organizational development and will be a point of contact for team member questions and issues. Preferred candidate(s) will have experience partnering and providing guidance and support to product line areas in all talent cycle activities including benefits and employee relations.


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Foster collaborative relationships with business leaders and HR teammates to determine organizational needs and identify targeted solutions that support business and people strategy.
  • Act as a resource for people-related items including compensation, promotions, talent development, benefits and leave of absence requests including State Paid Family Leave(s).
  • Partner with hiring managers and Talent Acquisition to deliver a rigorous and thoughtful recruitment process from role description to onboarding for a growing business.
  • Ensure company compliance with federal, state, and local legal requirements in the U.S.
  • Work on strategic regional and global HR projects as required.


Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

  • At least 10 years of increasingly responsible HR generalist experience with an emphasis on recruiting
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
  • Insurance experience a plus
  • Advanced communication skills including negotiation, communication, and presentation experience
  • Excellent administrative and organizational skills
  • Ability to analyze and utilize data to gain insights
  • Confidence, professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment
  • Strong collaboration, team building and influencing skills
  • Proficiency with MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and internet applications
  • Highly attentive to detail

The base salary for this position in New York is $135K – 170K, along with annual bonus eligibility; a candidate’s salary is determined by their relevant skills and experience. We value our teammates – both their capabilities and character – as demonstrated by our amazing culture.
