SUMMARY We are seeking an experienced Senior Highway Construction Inspector who is NICET Level III or IV Certified for highway and bridge construction. The selected candidates will have 15+ years of experience. The Senior Highway Construction Inspector will apply engineering principles to inspect and oversee construction inspection activities, to ensure compliance with project plans, approved shop/working drawings, project documents and specifications, reporting observations verbally and in writing to managers. RESPONSIBILITIES Inspect construction activities in accordance with established quality procedures and evaluate compliance with project plans, specifications, shop drawings and other project related documents. Prepare and submit accurate, legible, comprehensive, and complete testing and/or inspection reports daily in accordance with established quality procedures. Review plans, specifications, general notes, and shop/working drawings for assigned activities prior to performing assigned duties. Perform, supervise, report on frequency compliance and coordinate field tests on materials and completed work using standard methods established by AASHTO, ASTM or other agency with appropriate, properly calibrated testing equipment. Perform mathematical calculations using basic algebra (fundamental laws, algebraic expressions), geometry, and the trigonometric functions of right triangles. Train less experienced workers in work methods and serve as lead worker for less experienced workers. Assist in planning and coordinating inspection operations. Meet with contractor's supervisors or other project leaders on assigned project sites to discuss and coordinate testing, sampling, or inspection of construction materials or construction procedures. Review material tests and completed work performed by assigned inspectors to assure compliance with requirements of established procedures. Verify adequacy of number of samples and locations at which samples are collected to assure representative distribution of sampling and testing. Provide input in evaluations of employee performance. Review project inspection and testing costs, engineering, and inspection budgets to actual. EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE A High School Diploma is required. 15+ years of relevant verifiable experience, or NICET Highway Construction Inspection Certification Level III or IV in Transportation Engineering Technology (Highway Construction). Related experience and/or education may be evaluated to substitute for on the job experience. Troxler Nuclear Gauge certification is required. ACI Field Testing Level 1 is required. TxDOT experience is preferred. OSHA 30 a plus. Completion of Texas specific Technician Training and Certification Program (TTCP) for applicable testing/sampling procedures or the ability to complete within 6-months of employment. Knowledge, skills, and experience to review project plans and specifications, including required properties of asphalt, concrete, and other materials to identify potential problems and develop inspection strategies. Experience supervising and training inspection and field-testing personnel. Must possess a valid drivers license, pass a defensive driving course and meet the firms auto insurability requirements. Exceptional analytical, problem solving, and observation skills. Exceptional critical-thinking and decision-making skills. Ability to multi-task. Exceptional interpersonal skills, and the ability to effectively work with diverse individuals and disciplines. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency with MS Office products. Preference will be given to residents of the Dallas/Fort Worth area. As a condition of your employment, you must pass a background check and pre-employment drug test. You will be subject to post-accident, random, and reasonable cause drug testing during employment. COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS Compensation is based on contract specifications.
