About the Role

You are an organized self-starter looking to join a dynamic Food Safety team focusing on direct-to-consumer Food Safety programs supporting Wild Alaskan Company.   

The Senior Food Safety Manager reports to the Food Safety Director, directly communicates and collaborates with the Procurement team regarding raw materials, packaging, labeling and Operations team regarding fulfillment centers and last mile logistics to remedy any outlier issues reported from our members. When you collaborate within the organization you will continuously evaluate and elevate FSQA standards in everyday workflow, and have the same level of attention enforcing these standards with Wild Alaskan suppliers and partners. 

Everyday, you will strive to develop more structure centered around creating the best and safest experience for our Wild Alaskan teammates and members. 

How You Show Up

You are a grounded problem solver that can visualize and effectively implement Food Safety programs throughout the organization and with suppliers and partners. You get the job done expeditiously ensuring the safest, highest-quality, wild-caught, sustainable seafood is delivered to Wild Alaskan members throughout the supply chain. 

Core Responsibilities

  • Assist with management and development of company-wide Food Safety Programs.
  • Consistently promote and drive a culture of continuous improvement for all FSQA related programs and activities. 
  • Assist Director of FSQA in any Food Safety incident, including but not limited to foodborne illness, product adulteration/contamination, or recall activities of any type.
  • Staying current on all changes to regulations (state and federal) that affect processes and implementations.
  • Complaint management (members, suppliers, supply chain).
  • Ability to risk assess processes across organization with suppliers, through to distribution and determine required FSQA interventions and regulatory impacts.
  • Non-Conformance, Root cause analysis and Corrective actions.
  • HACCP, FSMA (FDA), SSOP Standard compliance, plan writing and implementation
  • Manage third-party testing (Food Microbiology, Nutritional Label Testing, Food Allergen Testing, Shelf Life Studies). 
  • Create compliance and specification management for new product development and/or current processes.
  • Review product specifications at an interval that assures supplier compliance with all regulatory and Wild Alaskan requirements.
  • Review and manage Food safety documentation.
  • Review and manage Supplier Management system.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.

Required Skills and Experiences

  • Bachelor's degree or 7+ years of applicable experience (Food Science, Food Manufacturing).
  • HACCP Certified.
  • Experience with development and implementation of BRC, SQF and/or similar audit schemes.
  • Background in Food Safety (CPG and e-commerce a plus).
  • Effective communications skills - written and verbal.
  • Working knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices, HACCP, and FSQA issues.
  • Experience with third-party, Federal and State auditors.
  • Ability to train teams for Food Safety Programs (FSMA, HACCP, etc.). 
  • Excellent relationship building skills.
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace. 
  • Adaptable to new systems and processes (Asana, Looker, etc.).
  • Exceptional problem solving skills.
  • The ability to execute quick, high-judgment decisions and ability to direct teams to work through difficult situations.
  • A willingness to learn and embrace uncertainty.

Nice to Haves 

  • PCQI Certification
  • 3PL Experience a plus
  • Experience with seafood industry technical groups
  • Sustainability - knowledge of certifications and sustainable seafood industry practices  
  • Operations experience
  • Passionate about sustainable, wild-caught seafood
  • Experience working with distributed, remote teams
  • Proficiency in languages other than English

The starting salary range for this position is $70,000 - $110,000, commensurate with skills and experience. Wild Alaskan's benefits package includes health, vision, and dental insurance, 401k, PTO, safe/sick time, vacation, parental leave and more, as well as a delicious box of free fish every month.
