Your daily work with DTSC's scientists, engineers, geologists, toxicologists, administrative, IT staff, and management will help develop and update existing policies, procedures, and protocols and ensure operational and strategic data are optimized and visualized to drive effective organizational change.
As a Senior Environmental Scientist (Specialist) you will have the opportunity to:

  • Work independently or as a lead to develop and implement project management plans and coordinate with other Performance Management Unit (PMU) staff and EPM I on conducting highly sensitive scientific research
  • Work with the management to develop policies, procedures, and protocols for SMRP program enhancements
  • Maintain and update SMRP Share point and website
  • Coordinate with PMU and SMRP management and staff to facilitate strategic priorities, program enhancement, program improvements, and operational planning execution and scheduling
  • Develop and implement plans, programs, and surveys for environmental best practices to implement SMRP metrics and goals that maximize efficient and effective resource allocation to deliver services to communities across California
Desirable Qualifications We Look For:
  • Experience in project management of large, complex, or politically sensitive sites
  • Application of scientific principles related to DTSC's site mitigation and restoration programs
  • Policy analysis skills, including the ability to develop and evaluate policies and make policy recommendations
  • Qualitive and quantitative research skill, including the ability to conduct key informant interviews, synthesize existing research, design data collection mechanisms, conduct literature review, and write reports
  • Ability to identify a challenging problem and independently formulate and execute a solution to a satisfactory conclusion
  • Ability to strive to deliver agreed-upon outcomes or results and eager to take ownership for their commitments and accept responsibility for team deliverables
  • Ability to be well-organized, adept at working in a dynamic environment, and able to maintain professional, productive relationships with their peers, management, and external stakeholders, desire to be a team player, has strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to plan and facilitate meetings, build consensus, be a part of a team, and work collaboratively
  • Familiarity with state and DTSC programs and policies
  • Experience in preparing project budgets, resource projections, schedule and tracking of project activities
