Salary Range:    $51,500.00 - $65,000.00 Salary/year
Travel Percentage:    Hybrid opp in NC (virtual & in person)

Summary:

The Senior Director of Philanthropy works with and under the supervision of the Chief Executive Officer to develop and execute a culture of Philanthropy that meets or exceeds revenue targets, upholds the integrity of the mission, and ensures sound fund-raising best practices. S/he continuously cultivates and maintains positive relationships between the council, board members, membership, and the community to increase public awareness and increase support of the Girl Scouts program; implements an effective comprehensive fund development program for contributed and in-kind resources for the council, ensuring that the goals for all fundraising activities are met. The incumbent ensures effective communication with all donors, both internal and external, and the collection of meaningful data in the measurement of outcomes.

 

What you will do:

  • Identify potential sources and raise philanthropic funds from individuals, corporations, foundations, planned giving and major gifts; maintain relationships with current and past donors.
  • Develop a cultivation strategy for existing donors and implement to drive increased giving.
  • Ensure compliance with fund development policies, procedures, plans, goals and budgets; interpret and implement policies.
  • Serve as a member of the leadership team, working with team members to implement strategic plan, the fund-raising plan, and the budget; takes responsibility for the overall health of the council.
  • Stay current with philanthropy trends and best practices in CRM software.
  • Engage in networking opportunities and community involvement that will create a greater awareness of Girl Scouts and strengthen the council’s and Movement’s reputation in the community.
  • Develop a depth of knowledge regarding the design of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience and can easily articulate to any stakeholder the virtues of the organization.
  • Collaborate with marketing department to effectively promote events through print and digital channels, including public relations, invitations, advertising, signage, flyers, day-of event collateral, and follow-up materials and communications.
  • Oversee the management of grants and support organizations.
  • Oversee and manage special events for fund development and alumnae engagement including overall strategy, planning, logistics and execution, sponsors and underwriting, host committee recruitment and coordination, event budget and revenue forecast, and supervision of contractors.
  • Participate actively in the development of environments that foster diversity, equity, inclusion and access through words, actions and attitude. Contributes to the DEI goals of the Council by assuring that all plans reach out to all racial/ethnic groups and provide equal access by acquiring knowledge and understanding of DEI and exhibiting a non-discriminatory attitude in all internal and external working relationships.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Who we are looking for:

  • Bachelors degree in marketing, sales, non-profit management or a closely related field, or equivalent combination of education and directly related experience.
  • Five or more years demonstrated professional experience in a non-profit organization, with a proven track record of success in developing and leading philanthropic strategy and raising money.
  • Experience with and knowledge of Girl Scout philosophy, standards, program and systemsor prior non-profit leadership work is preferred.
  • Experience with fund development CRM highly desirable
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and sound-decision making and work independently to achieve goals and objectives.
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with diverse people and volunteers.
  • Commitment to providing top-notch customer service for all internal and external contacts with a desire to resolve customer inquiries on first contact.
  • Must have consistent drive, persistence, sense of urgency, flexibility, willingness to learn, and sales aptitude.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and persuasively in person, by phone and in writing by email with donors, members, prospective donors/members, volunteers and colleagues.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
  • Ability and willingness to travel throughout council jurisdiction up to 50% of the time.
  • An inclusive leadership style, outstanding management skills
  • Strong planning, organization, and financial skills.
  • Ability to work independently and be self-motivated but within a team environment.
  • Ability to provide seamless integration and coordination of effort among departments, programs, and services.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Windows, and internet technology.
  • Competent use of CRM software platforms designed for fund development and donor management.

What else do you need:

  • Subscribe to the principles of the Girl Scout Movement and become and remain a registered member of GSUSA, Girl Scouts Carolinas Peaks to Piedmont.
  • Successfully pass criminal and driver background investigation.
  • Valid state-issued drivers license, valid auto insurance, acceptable driving record and access to a vehicle on a daily basis and willingness and ability to travel throughout the council’s geographic area.
