Job description

Answer Engineering is a team of exceptional engineers that provide design and analysis services to aerospace companies around the world. We tackle the most complex engineering problems and work on vehicles subjected to the harshest environments. We create lasting relationships with our customers and work on programs ranging from supersonic commercial vehicles, cargo and passenger eVTOLs, commercial space travel, and launch vehicle adapters taking satellites into orbit. We conceptualize leading edge vehicles with our customers, develop final designs for production, and have supported dozens of first flights.

To meet the demands and challenges of our customers, we promote a collaborative and flexible work environment. We value teamwork and embrace everyone's strengths and weaknesses. Discussions take place in the open where everyone can contribute freely. Company events are frequent; spontaneous cookouts, happy hours, and annual ski trips are some of our favorites. Our casual office is stocked with snacks and cold brew; when you need a break from your desk, go work on a personal project in our shop, play some ping pong, or hone your skills on the flight simulator!

We are looking for experienced Design Engineers to add to our team! As a Senior Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the design and analysis of aerospace structures and lead teams of younger engineers. This position will encompass all program cycles including concept design, prototyping, detailed analysis, modeling, drafting, manufacturing, testing, and flight. You will frequently use CAD and Finite Element Analysis programs to bring conceptual ideas to reality. Significant experience with multiple CAD packages (Catia, Inventor, NX, SolidWorks) is required. You will be responsible to quickly develop CAD and/or prototype models and present quality results to customers. This position will require you to collaborate between program management, analysis, procurement, and manufacturing teams. To be successful in this role strong presentation and communication skills are a must.

Responsibilities:

  • Design of primary and secondary aerospace structures and systems
  • Creating and delivering CAD models and presentations to customers
  • Communicate across engineering disciplines to make program critical decisions
  • Identify core issues, develop solutions, and effectively communicate the impacts across internal and external teams
  • Lead, mentor, and collaborate with other engineers, both internally and externally
  • Manage schedule and tasking to meet and exceed expectations
  • Develop supporting material for design such as bill of materials, assembly or installation procedures, and weight optimization trades
  • Support and collaborate with program management, analysis, procurement, and manufacturing teams

Requirements

  • 7-15 years of relevant experience
  • B.S. in mechanical or aerospace engineering (or comparable education/work experience)
  • Moderate travel
  • Must be a US citizen or permanent resident with the ability to obtain a security clearance

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience designing composite and metallic parts and assemblies
  • Systems design experience: flight controls, landing gear, hydraulic, etc.
  • Proficient with multiple CAD programs such as Catia or Solidworks
  • Familiar with analysis packages such as FEMAP and NASTRAN (or equivalent)
  • Significant experience drafting parts, assemblies, and installation drawings using GD&T (ASME Y14.5) best practices
  • Working knowledge of aerospace materials, hardware, and fabrication techniques
  • Rapid prototype experience
  • Familiar with fabrication, inspection, and repair of composites and metallic parts and assemblies
  • Experience with design lifecycle and configuration management systems
  • Hands on experience with machining and composite layup
  • Test plan development and structural testing experience
  • Team building and collaboration skills are a must; work across all disciplines to solve complex engineering problems

Benefits

  • 401k with company match
  • Health, vision, and dental insurance
  • Paid sick leave
  • Parental leave program
  • Relocation assistance
  • Flexible work schedule
  • Hybrid work option
  • Education reimbursement program
  • Shop use for personal projects
  • Dog friendly office
  • Company sponsored events
