As a growing financial technology company offering real estate valuation products, software platforms and rich data and analytics, you will be an instrumental part of a small yet strong database operations team supporting data and application Development working with some of the brightest minds in the industry.
What You Will Work On
- Senior engineer supporting a large number of PostgreSQL instances running in our hybrid cloud. Everything from RDS, Aurora, RedShift, and EnterpriseDB to community edition
- Engineer solutions that are always available and support a 24/7 operations through measured SLA’s
- Manage HA architectures, disaster recovery, and backup/restore processes
- Understand and apply advanced database administration, management and performance-tuning techniques
- Repeatable builds, automation, documentation, and alerting are part of your technology wheelhouse and path to productionizing a stack
- Provide advanced technical troubleshooting for applications and database systems
- Configure and tune hardware and software to ensure optimum performance and resource utilization
- Participate in design and application review sessions
- Develop Python and shell scripts, procedures and processes for data migration and application development
- Participate in meetings and conference calls related to project and troubleshooting activities
- Provide support for database-related project activities
- Develop strong working knowledge of key applications and their interaction with the database(s)
Who We Are Looking For
- Minimum of seven (7) years experience with administering and maintaining Postgres-based applications to achieve reliability and availability SLAs
- Minimum of seven (7) years experience with PostgreSQL version upgrades, migrations, and patching running in a hybrid cloud
- Bachelor’s degree in computer information systems, computer science or related discipline preferred
- Proven experience as a Linux System Administrator, preferably in a production environment
- Tuning of SQL statements and PL/pgSQL code
- Git
- Release management and SDLC
- Experience working in a 24x7 development environment
- Database analysis and design expertise
- Data extraction, transformation, and loading
- Capable of working and managing multiple diverse projects in an agile environment.
- Enjoys complex problem-solving and solutioning with a team
Great to Have
- Experience with AWS RDS, Aurora and Redshift
- Experience with Jira, BitBucket (Git) and Confluence
- Experience working directly with application developers in terms of database design, performance tuning, and troubleshooting
- Ability to write, debug and tune SQL and PL/pgSQL, packages, procedures, functions, triggers, etc.
- Experience with database monitoring and tuning tools
- Thorough knowledge of physical and logical disk systems and their impact on database performance
- Advanced knowledge of database administration tasks such as hot and cold backups, database recovery, security, etc.
- Advanced installation and configuration experience
- Ability to write and maintain documentation describing changes and modifications to all systems and databases
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and own complex problems to resolution
