Your role at Sephora:

As a Senior Database Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering the engineering and operations aspects of our database systems, while ensuring their optimal performance, security, and scalability. You will play a critical role in designing, implementing, and maintaining database solutions to support our applications and business operations. Your expertise in MySQL, PostgreSQL, Cosmos DB, and other relevant technologies will be essential to the success of our organization.


Responsibilities:

  • Provide expertise in Database Engineering, including Oracle systems, MySQL, PostgreSQL & Cosmos database systems ensuring the smooth operation of Enterprise and Core Systems.
  • Manage, monitor, and optimize database systems for performance, availability, and security.
  • Implement and maintain database backup and recovery procedures and perform routine maintenance, patching, and upgrades.
  • Offer L3/L4 support for critical unresolved and escalated issues. Collaborate closely with software engineering teams to integrate applications seamlessly with various database technologies.
  • Enhance the availability, efficiency, and resiliency of database systems through continuous efforts.
  • Enforce best practices and standards for database monitoring, incident response, change management, and capacity planning.
  • Participate in database design and architecture discussions, making recommendations for optimal database schema and structure.
  • Optimize database queries and performance in collaboration with development teams.
  • Manage and optimize databases in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) while ensuring integration with on-premises systems.
  • Promote modern DevOps practices, automation, and infrastructure-as-code principles.
  • Stay updated with emerging technologies and industry trends in Database Engineering.
  • Administer, configure, troubleshoot, and support Database Platform 24x7, including production and non-production environments.
  • Oversee disaster recovery plans and procedures, including regular testing and validation.
  • Lead incident post-mortems and root cause analysis to identify opportunities for enhancements and optimizations.
  • Ensure the security and compliance of database systems, including data encryption, access controls, and audits.
  • Collaborate with the security team to address vulnerabilities and implement security best practices.
  • Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and foster a collaborative and knowledge-sharing environment within the team.


We’re excited about you if you have:

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 12+ years of experience in Database Engineering, including MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Oracle systems.
  • Proficiency in MySQL, Oracle, and PostgreSQL database administration.
  • Experience in Unix Shell Scripting and Unix commands
  • Strong scripting skills with Python or similar languages.
  • Experience designing and deploying database instances in Azure PaaS Environment
  • Experience with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
  • Experience designing and providing High Availability Oracle solutions after discussing and understanding Application’s and business’s requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience writing & optimizing SQL and PL/SQL and writing scripts using Shell and/or Python and automating routine DBA tasks.
  • In-depth knowledge of Oracle Database architecture, performance tuning, and optimization.
  • Experience in managing technology budgets and optimizing resource allocation.
  • Proficiency in DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure automation.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle Databases
  • Experience with Oracle RAC / ODA is a Plus

The annual base salary range for this position is $142,020.00 - $175,300.00 The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include, as applicable, the applicant’s qualifications for the position; years of relevant experience; specific and unique skills; level of education attained; certifications or other professional licenses held; other legitimate, non-discriminatory business factors specific to the position; and the geographic location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will perform the job. Individuals employed in this position may also be eligible to earn bonuses.
