As a Senior Database Administrator, you will ensure availability, reliability, observability and recoverability of databases supporting Credit Acceptance systems. You will partner with cross-functional teams to design, develop, test and implement features and code. You will also monitor and tune systems and processes to achieve optimal application performance, stability and security.
Outcomes and Activities:
Database Administration
  • This position will work from home; occasional planned travel to an assigned Southfield, Michigan office location may be required. However, this position is permitted to work at a Southfield, Michigan office location if requested by the team member.
  • Architects, builds, and maintains all aspects of enterprise database systems.
  • Leads coordination with cross-functional application teams to define, estimate, and implement requirements for new system development.
  • Upgrades and patches enterprise database systems.
  • Defines and adheres to standards, procedures and methodologies for effective availability, reliability, and recoverability of all enterprise database systems.
  • Provides support for databases and application system issues to all customers.
  • Leads remediation efforts for database and application outages.
  • Drives strategic efforts to reduce the likelihood and impact of database or application issues.
  • Executes continuous capacity monitoring, observing database growth and system utilization to establish current and future database resource requirements.
  • Executes and maintains database backups while ensuring data integrity.
  • Develops and tests Disaster Recovery process and procedures, while coordinating efforts in Disaster Recovery exercises.
  • Develops and maintains documentation related to database systems and projects.
  • Supports more junior staff in the development of their skills.
Other
  • Participates in 24/7 on-call rotation schedule.

  • Solution Design: Ability to translate high level requirements to create and implement designs that meet the needs of the customer, are technically sound, maintainable, and cost effective. Ability to identify missing or ambiguous requirements. Ability to design at both high and low levels of abstraction, understand complex requirements and translate into understandable solutions. Ability to accurately estimate based on requirements.
  • Technical Domain: Understand the technical domain, including the application architecture, design, and data of the application they support and systems to which it interfaces.
  • Testing Techniques: Understand the range of testing techniques available well enough to select the most effective test procedures.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 7 years of database administration experience with Oracle or SQL and Postgres or Aurora Postgres
  • Expert knowledge of SQL and database performance tuning, high-availability, backups, and recovery
  • Strong knowledge or procedural language pl/sql, pl/pgsql, T-SQL
  • Strong experience working with Big Data
  • Strong knowledge with UNIX/Linux environments and commands
  • Strong knowledge in writing and maintaining shell scripts, perl, and python or other languages
  • Experience with database replication technologies such as Dataguard, Streams, or GoldenGate
  • Experience with converting Oracle to Postgres or Aurora
  • Experience with AWS
  • Experience with database metrics for performance and reliability
  • Knowledge of noSQL databases
  • Demonstrated experience designing and implementing technology enabled solutions
Preferred Experience:
  • Experience migrating databases to AWS
  • Experience in J2EE/WebLogic/Tomcat application environments
  • Experience supporting service architecture
Targeted Total Compensation: $145,125 - $216,938. Total compensation is comprised of a competitive base salary and an annual variable compensation package.
