Role Overview:*
We are seeking a Senior Database Administrator (DBA) role to take responsibility for database integrity, monitoring, architecture, security, and performance tuning for our sizable MySQL/MariaDB platforms. As a key member of our organization, you will play a crucial role in managing, maintaining, and optimizing our database systems. You will be responsible for ensuring the performance, availability, and security of our databases while collaborating with cross-functional teams to support business objectives. Key Responsibilities:
As a Senior Database Administrator (DBA), you oversee the management, implementation, and performance of our organization's databases. The role involves:
- Database Management
- Design, implement, and maintain highly available, geo-redundant, and scalable database solutions.
- Implement and enforce database policies and procedures.
- Performance Optimization
- Perform regular database performance tuning and optimization activities.
- Data Security
- Manage database security and access controls, including encryption mechanisms to protect data at rest and in transit.
- Ensure compliance with data protection regulations, industry standards, and internal security policies.
- Backup and Recovery
- Establish backup and recovery procedures to safeguard against data loss and ensure business continuity.
- Planning and Development
- Collaborate with development teams to design and implement database schemas, tables, and stored procedures.
- Conduct capacity planning and forecasting to accommodate future growth.
- Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies in database management.
- Troubleshooting
- Diagnose and resolve database-related issues, ensuring minimal downtime.
- Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain documentation of database systems and generate reports to communicate performance metrics and potential improvements.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- At least 5-10 years of experience in database administration is required.
- Expertise in database design, performance tuning, and optimization.
- Strong proficiency in SQL and scripting languages.
- Experience with cloud-based database solutions (e.g., AWS, Azure) is a plus.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- Certifications such as Oracle Certified Professional (OCP), Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, or equivalent.
- Experience with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra).
- Strong familiarity and understanding of MySQL or MariaDB with large data sets.
- Given the rapid advancements in database technologies, a willingness to learn and adapt to new tools, trends, and best practices is highly valued.
