Job Overview

The Senior Database Administrator is a key contributor in developing applications for Opus IVS’s cutting-edge products. Collaborating closely with a skilled team, they maintain and enhance the RAP/Drive/ScanSafe solutions. The candidate will be responsible for maintaining and administering highly available systems in a cloud environment. They will provide effort estimations and contribute to multiple projects simultaneously. Clear communication and documentation are essential aspects of this role, supporting efficient collaboration and the success of our software development initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical expertise in designing, managing, and administering Databases in Cloud (AWS & Azure) to meet shifting organizational demands.
  • Partnering with the development teams, you will be responsible for Database Reliability, Performance, and Security.
  • Responsible for designing, integrating, and managing enterprise level database systems that are highly available, performant, secure, and scalable.
  • Engage in automation to enhance provisioning and operational efficiency.
  • Monitor database performance, identifying bottlenecks, and proactively optimizing query execution plans, indexes, and database configurations. This ensures efficient use of resources and enhances overall system performance.
  • Manage database resources, such as CPU, memory, and storage, to prevent resource contention and ensure fair distribution among applications and tools.
  • Optimize complex queries, identifying, and resolving performance issues. Collaborate with application developers to troubleshoot and resolve database-related problems.
  • Implement robust backup and recovery strategies to safeguard data integrity and provide rapid data recovery in case of failures or disasters.
  • Provisioning of new databases and scaling existing databases to meet the evolving demands of applications and tools on the shared platform.
  • Manage database schema changes and versioning to coordinate updates and ensure compatibility between different applications and tools.
  • Partner with IT to configure monitoring and alerting systems to proactively detect issues and promptly respond to potential problems in the shared platform, ensuring observability and quick incident resolution.
  • Participate in design reviews to maintain quality and promote team unity.
  • Provide detailed effort estimations when necessary.
  • Participate in an agile development methodology to support many projects and teams, simultaneously.
  • Create and maintain documentation for existing and new implementations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Competencies:

  • Proficient in task estimation, demonstrating the capability to accurately assess project requirements and consistently meet deadlines.

Qualifications:

  • Must have a bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering or a related information technology field.
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of successful experience.
  • Proficiency in database management systems (e.g., MySQL, SQL Server)
  • Strong analytical skills, and knowledge of database security practices
  • Experience with scripting languages and a solid understanding of system architecture.
  • 3+ years of experience in managing databases in Cloud (AWS and/or Azure) preferably AWS RDS
  • Ability to work with Observability tools such as DataDog and AWS Performance Insights.
  • Able to work independently or within a team proactively in a fast-paced agile environment.
  • The ability to develop ETL data integration processes is a plus.
