Position Details
We are seeking a skilled Database and application Administrator to oversee the functionality, security, and performance of our databases and critical applications. This multifaceted role involves managing, maintaining, and optimizing databases while also administering key applications, ensuring their availability, and coordinating updates, patches, and testing processes. Works under the supervision of the WSU Database Administration Manager.
5 years of experience in areas that include the following:
- Experience with Performance Tuning and Optimization, using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
- Experience with backups, restores and recovery models.
- Experience working with Windows server, including Active Directory.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Ability to organize and plan work independently.
- Ability to multi-task and context-switch effectively between different activities and teams.
- Oracle Certified Professional (Must stay current on certifications. Within one year after go live of that version) OR MCDBA Certification (Must stay current on certifications. Within one year after go live of that version) – see note below.
- Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Certified Architect Professional
- Oracle Certified Professional
- MCSA: Administration OR MCSE: Data Management and Analytics
- Experience with Performance Tuning and Optimization, using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
- Experience with backups, restores, and recovery models.
- Experience working with Windows and Linux servers.
- Ability to organize and plan work independently.
- Ability to multi-task and context-switch effectively between different activities and teams.
- Designing and implementing High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) for all of the application and database platforms.
- Foundation in systems development: understanding the system development life cycle, software project management approaches, requirements, design, and test techniques. The ability to conceptualize and influence application and interface projects, understanding what advice to give and where to plug in to steer toward desirable outcomes.
- Ability to conceive and portray the big data picture.
- Delegate duties and tasks within the IT department.
- Review completed tasks to ascertain compliance with standards.
- Monitor all team members and provide necessary advice and guidance.
- Perform periodic risk assessments and initiate risk control strategies.
- Coach all team members and motivate them to produce desired results.
- Organize regular seminars and trainings to teach team members new techniques and methods.
- Keep up with trends in the constantly evolving information technology industry.
- Perform regular IT audit to discover areas of weaknesses and fortify them.
- Work alongside other departments to achieve company goals and visions.
- Write and forward regular reports to the management.
- Provide solution to any complex IT related challenges in the organization.
- Perform regular appraisal of team member’s performance and devise strategies to help with improvement.
- Carry out in-depth research to reveal new and better methods of handling functions within the department.
- Ensure that the company’s data and information are protected from unauthorized access.
