The Washington University School of Medicine Operations & Facilities Management Department provides a range of services for the medical campus in a customer-focused, efficient, and sustainable manner.Operations & Facilities Management maintains 61 university buildings and provides operational, planning, and construction services to over 8.3 million gross square feet of space. We will open three new facilities between 2023 and 2025 with over 1.5M BGSF. In addition, the School of Medicine continues expanding its reach on and off campus in teaching, clinical care, and research. Our team plays a vital and important role in delivering clinical care, research, and education.
Assist supervisor with the daily routine of custodial personnel and scheduling or coverage problems. Serves as working lead to ensure that all custodial duties are performed in a high-quality manner. May be required to supervise the daily routine of team members and assist the supervisor in scheduling or coverage problems. Maintains safe and healthy work areas for staff, visitors, and customers.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Responds to dispatch service requests from customers and field out-to-day crew personnel.
- Canvasses all areas daily, doing spot checks for thoroughness and quality of cleanliness.
- Instructs personnel in the proper manner of execution of responsibilities and reports daily progress to supervisor.
- Compiles monthly list of supplies needed and submits order to supervisor.
- Assists supervisor in contacting customers to discuss problems or concerns. Handles and resolves customer complaints. Sometimes, prioritizing problems or issues with several customers may be necessary. Conduct tours and follow-up with customers to advise of progress, etc.
- Holds group/team meetings to discuss issues of concern and follow up with employees in the absence of a supervisor. Discusses all safety issues and provide proper PPE.
- Assists supervisor with on-the-job training for new employees regarding every phase of their job, including chemical and equipment uses. Provides continuous training using on-the-job coaching methods for current employees. Also provides training on new products and/or equipment when necessary.
- Ensures that all keys, pagers, and radios are checked in and out according to procedures.
- Ensures that laundry is cleaned and distributed to all shift satellite offices.
- Manages moves & set-up for special events.
Working Conditions
- 3rd shift schedule is typically Sunday – Thursday, 10:00 PM – 6:30 AM.
- Some weekends and overtime may be required.
- Exposure to chemicals.
- Typically bending, crouching, stooping.
Preferred Qualifications
- Five plus years of experience in the custodial/janitorial industry.
- Working knowledge of general equipment.
- Must read and understand labels and operating instructions on equipment and chemical containers.
- Be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- The ability to determine proper dilutions of chemicals and other products utilized in the area.
- Ability to work well with others on a team.
- Must be able to provide superior service to customers and demonstrate good judgment.
- Have the ability to plan and organize activities and work cooperatively with customers.
- Practice safety procedures at all times and thorough knowledge of cleaning.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent high school certification.

$18.91 - $29.32 / HourlyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University.
