Responsible for complex activities associated with general ledger, financial/operating reports, and budget analysis. This level requires broad knowledge of accounting practices and principles, with an emphasis on cost accounting and variance analysis. Strong problem solving skills and high proficiency in Excel is required. Preferred Bachelors with 5-7 years relevant experience or Associates Degree with 10+ years relevant experience or 12+ years of relevant experience.
Summary of This Position:
Valmont Industries, Inc., a leading global provider of engineered products and services for infrastructure development and irrigation equipment and services for agriculture, has an immediate opening for a Cost Accountant in the accounting department. This position supports the accounting and financial reporting functions for the Brenham manufacturing plant in concert with Divisional and Corporate accounting policies and procedures, and includes inventory valuation and control, shop order/work order variance analysis, financial/management reporting and closing activities.
Essential Functions
- Analyze periodic manufacturing variances including purchase cost, material usage, and overhead variances.
- Recommend process improvements stemming from root cause analysis of variances.
- Assist with month end close, adhering to strict deadlines.
- Assist with accurate, timely financial reports using Excel and OneStream that compare and analyze current results with budgeted results and future forecast.
- Assist with cost and inventory report generation for operations management.
- Assist with tracking of fixed asset CIP and annual fixed asset inventory.
- Work with the site personnel to gather data and explanations to support spend and productivity analysis.
- Other duties as assigned.
Other Important Details about the Role
Reporting to the Brenham Site Controller, this position is responsible for supporting the review and analysis of financial performance of the Brenham site. This includes the completion of reports, charts and diagrams that provide a basis for comparison and evaluation. This position is also responsible for providing ad hoc analysis to support financial forecasts.
