Senior Cost Controller
 

DEPARTMENT:

This position reports to the Operations Controller of Surface Americas in our Finance Department in Houston, Texas

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Partner with cross-functional teams to support the financial aspects of business operations.
  • Manage cost accounting functions for the US and Canada.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of standard costs and related accounting entries.
  • Prepare monthly inventory profit schedules and perform variance analysis.
  • Conduct monthly review of cost of goods sold accounts.
  • Lead annual standard cost roll and monthly review of variances.
  • Develop and maintain Power BI reports to support cost accounting and financial analysis.
  • Assist in maintaining fixed asset financial management system and perform depreciation and amortization calculations.
  • Prepare monthly schedules and analyses for (PPV,WOV,Scrap,rework).
  • Conduct cost trend analysis and make recommendations for process improvement initiatives.  
  • Train and mentor Senior Cost Accountants and other operational personnel to ensure compliance with financial standards.

MAIN TASKS:

  • Lead cost accounting processes for the US and Canada, including standard cost setting and review, and cost of goods sold analysis.
  • Develop and maintain Power BI reports to provide insights into cost accounting and inventory performance.
  • Lead the annual standard cost roll and perform monthly variance analysis to identify and explain cost fluctuations.
  • Perform cost trend analysis and make recommendations for process improvement initiatives.
  • Perform Scrap and Rework analysis to identify areas for improvement.
  • Perform Absorption and Utilization analysis to optimize production capacity and improve cost efficiency.
  • Perform Freight Analysis to identify opportunities for cost savings and improve freight management.
  • Assists with and develops department month end review and internal controls.
  • Trains Operational Personnel to ensure compliance with financial standards
  • Uses broad discretion on assignments of varied, diverse and difficulty in nature.
  • Serves as a finance subject matter expert for Inventory, Costing and Fixed Assets
  • Assist in maintaining the fixed asset management system, performing depreciation and amortization calculations, and preparing monthly schedules and analyses.
  • Assist in maintaining fixed asset management system records of capital assets including acquisitions, disposals, depreciation, amortization and related journal entries. Prepare monthly schedules and analyses.
  • Train and mentor Senior Cost Accountants and other operational personnel to ensure compliance with financial standards.
  • Liaise with cross-functional teams to support the financial aspects of business operations.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • BA/BS in Finance or Accounting.  CPA/CMA/MBA preferred.
  • At least seven years of related experience.  Manufacturing experience is a plus.  
  • Advanced analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of Accounting principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Strong computer skills including advanced proficiency with spreadsheets.
  • Solid SAP or ERP experience
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and solve complex problems with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to transfer subject matter expertise.
  • Ability to prepare and deliver presentations. Detail oriented, organized and well developed time management skills.
  • Motivated self-starter.
  • Possess strong communication skills with other employees, managers and upper management.
  • Advanced interpersonal and leadership skills, and thrive in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Professional attitude.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Frequent sitting, standing, bending down, and operating a computer or workstation.  
  • May need to work flexible hours to meet the demands of the job.
  • Spends majority of time in a temperature controlled office environment.
  • Up to 15% travel may be required.
