Job Description:
This position is responsible for providing Construction Cost estimating support to VCI’s current clients which are primarily in the Federal construction market. The ideal candidate would be someone who has specialized experience in the field of project controls to include cost estimating on large complex vertical and horizontal construction projects, not necessarily an engineer, architect, or construction manager who has performed cost estimating duties intermittently or part time. Complex commercial or healthcare construction project controls experience and demonstrated experience performing cost for projects valued in excess of $100M is highly desired, however projects supported by VCI vary in total value from less than $100k to over $1B. Key responsibilities:
- Capability to develop independent estimates of project costs using RS Means, Microsoft Excel, and the Micro-Computer Aided Cost Estimating System (MCACES).
- Ability to perform take-offs and estimate costs for labor, equipment, and materials and apply appropriate overhead and profit markups consistent with client regulations, the region, and market or industry trends.
- This requires general familiarity with the trades and related engineering fields, including civil, mechanical, and electrical disciplines.
- Developing, maintaining, updating, and analyzing cost for internal design and construction efforts and reviewing and analyzing cost provided by construction contractors as an Owner’s Representative on behalf of the Client or Government.
- Requires enhanced skills and knowledge of MII and Microsoft Project (MS Project) software applications and strong experience in report preparation.
Education and Qualifications:
- 4-year engineering or construction management related degree or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related experience
- Minimum 10+ years of estimating and cost estimating experience
- Familiar estimating projects of varying size; $100,000 to $100M+
- Clear and analytical approach to problem-solving, with strong decision-making abilities.
- Knowledge of the researching construction markets in various areas of the country, including pricing conventions and trends.
- Ability to prepare budget/conceptual cost estimates from limited information.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting construction blueprints and design documents.
- Ability to perform accurate detailed quantity take-offs including use of Bluebeam software.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Solid organization, planning, collaboration, and leadership skills.
- Proficiency with Internet and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with MII cost estimating software is required
- Project Management Professional, Certified Cost Professional, or other recognized professional certification may receive higher consideration.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
