Role Description:
LHH is actively pursuing a Senior Buyer in the Chicagoland area. The Senior Buyer is responsible for the procurement of direct materials and limited subcontract services, management of vendors and monitoring the flow of goods and services in the supply chain from quotation and acquisition to final fulfillment. This position will report directly to the Global Purchasing Manager. This is a Hybrid position which will require the candidate to be in office two days a week.
Responsibilities will include:
- Utilize MRP software to determine material needs.
- Prepare RFQ’s and PO’s.
- Analyze cost and negotiate prices for goods and services.
- Monitor inventory for managed parts / commodities.
- Monitor existing orders to ensure on time deliveries.
- Communicate with brokers // vendors, including conference video/phone calls regarding delivery schedules and quality schedules.
- Expedite supplier orders as required to support production.
- Seek out new suppliers to improve strategic goals to improve our supply base and reduce risk (costs- including tariffs, lead times, and alignment).
- Participate in at least one weekly evening call with overseas teams and suppliers.
- B.S; (Engineering, Business, Computer Science) or equivalent work experience in supply chain/ operations required; Master of Science preferred.
- Previous experience working as a buyer or equivalent role with direct spend management.
- Working knowledge of MRP/ERP software and assembly workflow as related to supply chain management.
- Ability to understand bills of materials and navigate engineering drawings (part tables/component lists).
- Data/Analytics background to assist with report building / data analysis, performance monitoring and process automation.
- Previous experience connecting data to improve efficiency, automation, and complexity within a supply chain.
- Global sourcing experience particularly with Mexico and Asia a plus.
- APICS certification nice to have.
- Operations / manufacturing / warehousing experience encouraged.
- Ability to meet with and travel to vendor sites as needed on a limited basis.
- Strong problem-solving, time management, and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Previous role / experience leading teams or direct reports helpful.
- Bi-Lingual (Mandarin or Spanish) a plus. The compensation for this position is $90k +10% bonus
