Job Responsibilities
York Technical College, a member of the South Carolina Technical and Comprehensive Education System, is a public, two-year institution of higher education that offers a variety of associate degrees, diplomas, and certificates. Through maximizing student success, the College seeks to contribute to the economic growth and development of York, Lancaster, and Chester counties and of the State.
The Senior Accountant performs the following functions:
  • Performs monthly close out procedures, and prepares monthly journal entries. Answers inquiries regarding discrepancies and inaccuracies. Performs year end closing in areas assigned of the general ledger in accordance with AICPA and state audit guides. Ensures the accurate documentation of all financial transactions and receipt of all monies.
  • Manages assigned functions relating to e-Commerce. Continually reviews processes and procedures for safe guarding of cash and effective internal controls. Reconciles cash accounts daily, makes adjustments to cash accounts as needed and implements processes to aid reconciliation.
  • Reviews activity in regard to accounts receivable recording, invoicing and reconciliation. Evaluates the work of accountants responsible for accounts receivables. Reviews the distribution of Title IV and State grant programs with a total distribution of approximately $25 million annually. Reviews procedures and processes to ensure the College is in compliance with governmental regulations of Title IV and State grant programs.
  • Maintains the accounting system and distributes information to appropriate staff. Supervision of general ledger. Participates in the development of methods and procedures for recording and monitoring financial activity and recommends changes. Recommends and assists in developing and implementing agency policies and procedures related to the areas of financial management. Performs other duties as required.

Minimum and Additional Requirements
A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business or related field and professional experience directly related, such as accounting, auditing, finance or commercial lending.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in business with an accounting major
  • At least three years accounting experience.
  • MBA or graduate courses strongly preferred.
  • Formal training or experience in automated accounting systems preferred.
  • Experience in variety of microcomputer and mainframe computer systems preferred.
