Role Description
The Senior Program Accountant (SPA) for the SF SPCA Veterinary Hospital is mission focused, passionate about excellent veterinary service, and possesses strong financial and business acumen. The SPA is part of the Finance department but partners closely with the Hospital Business Administrator and Hospital Systems Manager to ensure the financial health of one of the largest vet hospitals in the Bay area, the SF SPCA. This position will play a pivotal role in overseeing and optimizing financial processes and workflows within the hospital and other program departments.
This is a full-time, hybrid role with at least 3-days a week on-site at our beautiful campus in the Mission neighborhood of San Francisco, CA.
Core Responsibilities
Financial Management
Collaborate with hospital management and FP&A for budgeting and forecasting processes to support hospital goals
Monitor and analyze financial performance, identifying areas for improvement
Maintain and improve dashboards to monitor hospital KPIs
Accounting Operations
Support reconciliation of bank statements and accounts to maintain accuracy by investigating chargebacks and other banking discrepancies in cash, Orbital, Paymode-X, Vets First Choice, Payjunction, and Care Credit
Ensure timely and accurate recording of financial transactions in EzyVet and NetSuite
Ownership of EzyVet processes including accounts receivable, write-offs, refunds, unidentified or stale transactions to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards
Assist with management of community partner accounts in EzyVet
Audit Coordination
Coordinate and support internal and external audits
Help prepare audit schedules and provide necessary documentation
Process Improvement
Identify opportunities for process improvements in program financial and accounting procedures
Implement best practices to enhance efficiency and accuracy
Salary & Benefits
The starting salary for this position depends on the depth and breadth of experience. The expected range is $91,000 -$107,000.

- A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field.
- Experience working with medical billing and/or hospital financial systems is required.
- Advanced financial and accounting skills, ideally in a veterinary or medical environment.
- Strong experience with process improvement and project management.
- Proven experience in leading organizational change initiatives.
- Demonstrated advanced critical thinking and analytical skills.
- Proven ability to effectively build relationships with the community, clients, veterinarians, donors, vendors, management, and co-workers.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel, including pivot tables and complex functions. Macros experience considered a strong advantage.
- Strong proficiency in database management preferred.
Salary Description
$91,000 - $107,000
