This is a hybrid role in Gainesville or Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

This is a professional accounting position, and the successful candidate will be responsible for general accounting functions including calculating, posting, and reviewing journal entries, preparing or updating complex schedules & analyses, reconciling accounts and assisting with period end closings to produce and review financial statements. This is in addition to providing support to their manager in relation to other general responsibilities of the Accounting department and ad hoc requests.
The position requires good communication, sound judgment and solid analytical skills. This position interacts with all levels of the organization. It is also important to have strong computer skills, attention to detail and to be a team player. Candidate should have the ability to work additional hours if the need arises during surge or accounting close weeks.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Prepare and review journal entries
- Determine and calculate required adjustments
- Assist with the monthly close process and preparation and review of financial statements
- Reconcile/analyze/review balance sheet accounts
- Assist with completion of the quarterly and annual regulatory filings; preparation of assigned Quarterly and Annual Statutory Statement schedules
- Identify and resolve data validity issues
- Assist with fulfilling audit requirements and coordination with external parties
- Assist with implementing and maintaining internal financial procedures and controls
- Contribute to department and organization special projects
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in a financial discipline or related field
- Minimum 3-5 years of accounting experience.
- Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting practices and principles
- Solid background of working with Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Excel
- Knowledge of statutory accounting principles or insurance industry experience preferred (but not required)
- The ability to work seamlessly with colleagues at other office locations is critical
- Experience working with financial reporting packages will be beneficial
