At the full performance, GS-06, the incumbent will:Respond to and/or contain crises or urgent situations including accidents; man-made, biological, chemical, radiological, or natural disasters; or other incidents that could result in harm to people, property, or the environment.Control access to the installation/Federal property and restricted areas, identify security risks, and provide traffic management.Apply requirements for equipping and securing government and contractor facilities to guard against unauthorized access, identify suspicious activities, and ensure continuity of operations.Operate security-related equipment (both manual and automated) or devices.Receive, authenticate, and vet visitors entering an installation. Requirements: Conditions of Employment:Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.Employee must be able to perform as a member of the installation's overall security response capability. May be required to carry and deploy a riot baton, carry a protective shield and employ non-lethal ammunition.This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the gun control act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position.This is a drug testing position. Must submit to a urinalysis on a recurring basis, in accordance with Army Regulation 600-85.Must obtain and maintain requirements of the Individual Reliability Program (IRP) in accordance with Army Regulation AR 190-56.Shift work is required, or a change in work shift may be necessary. Hours of work encompass fluctuating tours of duty to include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Overtime pay is required.Must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons.Must undergo and pass annual medical exams of physical, emotional, and mental stability.Must successfully complete Security Guard training upon entry into the position.May be required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment, and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and batons.Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid State driver's license.Must be able to pass an initial and an annual physical fitness/agility test.Must wear the Department of Army Security Guard (DASG) uniform in accordance with Army Regulation 190-56 and maintain a high standard of appearance and hygiene.Must be trained and maintain current required certifications in CPR techniques and must know first aid.Must obtain and maintain applicable certifications in operating various electronic equipment and sensors.Incumbents must be able to obtain and sustain state certification for operating the NCIC terminals known as APSIN. In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Additional information about transcripts is in this document.GS-04 General and/or Specialized Experience: Six months of general experience which includes following written procedures, rules, or regulations in contact with co-workers, supervisors, or members of the public to provide a service, respond to inquiries, or obtain information; AND six months of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-03 grade level in the Federal service which includes protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; or maintaining order and protecting life. Such experience must have provided a knowledge of protective systems and techniques.OREducation: Two years of education above the high school level in an accredited college or university.ORCombination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education by 60. Add the two percentages.GS-05 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes controlling access to a facility; searching various types of vehicles; verifying identification; performing traffic control duties; operating radios to pass and receive information. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).GS-06 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) enforcing security regulations to protect facilities and personnel; 2) preventing security violations and 3) experience such as work with Federal, State, municipal, local, or private protective organizations that involved the protection against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; or maintaining order and protecting life. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the Federal service (GS-05).You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:Access Control Operations.Physical Security.Search Techniques.Security Assessment. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05). Education:Some Federal Jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you may qualify if your education meets the definitions above at the GS-04 level only.GS-05 level: No education substitution.GS-06 level: No education substitution.
