Director of Security
Summary:
The Director of Security will work with the General Manager, COO and outside Security firm in coordinating and directing all functions relating to the security of the facility and safety of the employees, patients, purchasers and general public visiting the dispensary. The Director of Security will also work directly with the security staff regarding staffing scheduling, issues, etc., and other related work as required.
Typical Working Conditions:
This role is performed in a busy cannabis dispensary. The Director of Security will provide surveillance to the administrative office area, dispensary area, and all other areas of the facility as needed, and will be in almost constant contact with staff, patients, and purchasers. This individual will oversee the required ID Scanning techniques for access into the dispensary. Work may include dealing with patients, purchasers, outside vendors / contractors, and law enforcement.
Must be available to work varied hours and/or days, including nights, weekends, holidays, and/or possibly city events.
This role is based in Southern Illinois with remote responsibility in Tiffin, Ohio.
Responsibilities:
SUPERVISES: Security Officers
- Management of all security officers.
- Monitoring of all surveillance cameras.
- Complete all incident reports and coordinate response with Dispensary Manager.
- Strong ability to determine threats and make assessments.
- Maintain safe environment for patients, purchasers, employees, and visitors of the dispensary.
- Maintain all radio protocols and procedures.
- Advise employees in handling problems or resolving complaints from customers, tenants, detainees, or other persons.
- Apprehend or evict trespassers, rule violators, or other security threats from the premises.
- Assign security personnel to posts or patrols.
- Call police or fire departments in cases of emergency, such as fire, bomb threats, and presence of unauthorized persons.
- Develop and document security procedures, policies, or standards.
- Explain company policies and procedures to staff using oral or written communication.
- Inspect and adjust security equipment to ensure it is operational or to detect evidence of tampering.
- Investigate disturbances on the premises, such as security alarms, altercations, and suspicious activity.
- Log items distributed to persons, such as keys and key cards.
- Monitor and authorize entry of employees, visitors, or other persons.
- Analyze and evaluate security operations to identify risks or opportunities for improvement through auditing, review, or assessment.
- Assess risks to mitigate potential consequences of incidents and develop a plan to respond to incidents.
- Attend meetings, professional seminars, or conferences to keep abreast of changes in executive legislative directives or recent technologies impacting security operations.
- Communicate security status, updates, and actual or potential problems, using established protocols.
- Conduct physical examinations of property to ensure compliance with security policies and regulations.
- Conduct threat or vulnerability analyses to determine probable frequency, criticality, consequence, or severity of natural or man-made disasters or criminal activity on the organization's profitability or delivery of products or services.
- Coordinate security operations or activities with public law enforcement, fire, and other agencies.
- Create or implement security standards, policies, and procedures.
- Develop budgets for security operations.
- Develop or manage investigation programs, including collection and preservation of video and notes of surveillance processes or investigative interviews.
- Monitor video surveillance systems for issues and ensure issues are relayed to proper departments for handling.
- Oversee all third-party Security operations, monitor and approve all billing, be the point of contact for all communication, ensure PERC status of staff assigned, coordinate PERC status for our staff & conduct contract negotiations on behalf of our company.
- Monitor generators for operational status at all locations, and coordinate with service companies to ensure operational status.
- Oversee Alarm Monitoring services, review daily reports, update facility information and be the point of contact for all communications.
- Oversee facility alarm and security testing to always ensure operational status.
- Maintain facility Vendor list for all facilities, update as necessary, submit for approval from the state and ensure facilities have any recent updates and approvals.
- Monitor and coordinate the access control system for all facilities, control access levels, assign individual access cards and ensure removal of access for any employee departures.
- Assist and collaborate on the design of new facilities, ensure compliance with state regulations, and assist with setup of new facilities.
- Be a point of contact for state regulators for all security related matters
- Be knowledgeable about Illinois state rules and regulations related to all cannabis programs.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree and prior law enforcement experience required.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work requires periods of prolonged sitting and standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching. Requires normal range of hearing. Requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a cash register, computer, telephone, calculator, etc. May require lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally.
