Brazosport ISD Job Description
Job Title: Campus Safety Specialist
Reports to: Campus Principal
Dept./School: Assigned Campus
Employment Type: Non Exempt
Pay Grade: Clerical/Paraprofessional 1
Days: 187 or 177 Depending on Assignment
Primary Purpose: To provide support for campus administration by providing a high level of visibility and monitoring with an intentional focus on school safety and security.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- High school diploma or equivalent
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Strong interpersonal/communication (verbal, nonverbal, and written)
- General knowledge of public school safety and security issues
- General knowledge of de-escalation and behavior intervention strategies
- General knowledge of investigative skills
- Ability to work independently as well as serve as a member of a team
- Possession of emotional maturity and stability
Experience:
- Security experience preferred
- Prior experience working with youth preferred

Job Specific Requirements:
- Be a visible presence in the hallways during class transition periods, as well as during class periods
- Physically check every entrance of the school to ensure the building is secure
- Physically walk throughout all areas of the building, and the campus perimeter, looking for safety hazards and ensuring students are not in unauthorized areas
- Monitor the ingress and egress traffic flow during student drop-off and pick-up
- Assist with cafeteria supervision
- Support campus-based staff in implementation of tiered behavior interventions such as Check-in/Check-out, restorative discipline circles, or individualized student behavior support plans
- Assist with truancy prevention and interventions
- Assist with crime-stopper programs, backpack programs, or other campus-specific programs
- Investigate reports that relate to school safety and security, and report findings to campus administration
- Serve as a member of the campus crisis team
- Complete a daily report of activities and submit to campus administration
- Maintain confidentiality

- Maintain emotional control under stress
- Engage in frequent walking at a hurried pace, standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling
- Move small stacks of books, equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment
- Control student behavior through physical restraint when required to ensure the safety of students, staff, and property
- Maintain a high level of professionalism in dress, speech, ethics, values, and personal standards of performance
