SUMMARY: The Secondary Grade Band Electives Academic Coach's chief responsibilities are to assist with the overall quality of instruction provided by classroom teachers. These responsibilities include but are not limited to informal classroom observations and feedback, model lessons, support with lesson planning, assistance with instructional platforms, and data analysis from various sources. The Academic Coach for curriculum and instruction works closely with the principal, assistant principal, and other administrators to ensure the quality of classroom instruction is conducive to producing high student achievement. Position Overview:
The CTAE Career Technical and Agricultural Education) Academic Coach plays a vital role in supporting the development and success of CTAE programs within GCA. The Academic Coach collaborates with teachers, administrators, and industry professionals to enhance instructional practices, provide targeted support to students, and ensure the alignment of CTAE curriculum with industry standards and expectations. The CTAE Academic Coach is an active member of his/her aligned CTSO (Career and Technical Student Organizations) serving as an advisor to the students of GCA.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:   The below statements are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work being performed by this position. This is not a complete listing of all responsibilities and/or duties required; other duties may be assigned. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties. The position will be day classroom teaching and day support as a coach. Coach assignments will be tailored to Georgia pathways.

 
  • Demonstrate knowledge of grades 9 - 12 Electives standards
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Georgia CTSOs
  • Ensures conformance of educational programs to state and local school board standards through evaluation, development, and coordination activities
  • As needed, conducts research and aids in the implementation of curriculum resources that meet state standards.
  • Support the instructional development of all teachers
  • Support teachers with utilization of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment documents including curriculum map and scope and sequence documents
  • Collaborate with assistant principal and district instructional facilitator to develop, plan, and facilitate professional learning communities and CTSO activities.
  • Use data for planning and facilitating Grade Band data analysis professional learning community.
  • Collaborate with teachers to develop opportunities beyond core within our CTSOs
  • Promote student participation in intra curricular activities, competitions, and industry-related events.
  • Support and monitor instructional use of platforms (Canvas, Jigsaw, Illuminate, and curriculum/supplemental platforms)
  • Review the completion of lesson plans and provide constructive feedback
  • Conduct non-evaluative walkthroughs of instructional delivery and provide timely feedback
  • Collaborate and sync instructional delivery visits with instructional facilitators
  • Attend instructional planning and observation debriefing sessions with Curriculum Coordinator and/or instructional facilitators
  • Review interim assessments (district benchmarks) and provide instructional feedback to Curriculum Coordinator
  • Attend district focus walks
  • Monitor execution of data action plans and provide timely feedback
  • Liaison instructional requests and distribution (materials, platforms, supplies) to Curriculum Coordinator
  • Support local education agency (LEA) by attend meetings and completing required expectations
  • Conduct weekly open offices to support Grade Band content team
  • Assist teachers with planning and pacing of lessons, the development of differentiated lessons, and the selection of best practices to meet the needs of their students
  • Facilitates trainings and conversations about student growth data and progress towards academic achievement (i.e. Data meetings & Professional Learning Communities)
  • Attends all required training by the Georgia Department of Education and GCA
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Assistant Principal and/or Principal
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment Director, K-12 Curriculum & Instructional Programs Assistant Director, and/or Superintendent
 
Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no formal supervisory responsibilities.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:   
  • Bachelor's degree in education, or related field of study AND
  • Virtual teaching experience, earning a "Meets" or "Exceeds" expectations in all categories at each year-end review 
 
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES:
  • Preferred Advanced Degree in Education, or related field of study
  • desired TKES credentialed 
  • GA PSC Educational Certificate for grades 6 - 12 Electives
  • Preferred Leadership Endorsement, Certificate, or Degree
  • Clear Fingerprint/Background Check Required
 
OTHER REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  
  • Must possess knowledge of school improvement process.
  • Must have experience working with large data sets including display.
 
  • Ability to read and interpret student academic data and psycho-educational reports.
 
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws, and other pertinent laws regarding K-12 Education as they relate to applicable duties.
  • Familiarity with online learning environment.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations.
 
  • Proficient in MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, OneNote, and G-Suite. 
  • Knowledge of the Georgia Performance Standards and GADOE Implementation Manual.
 
  • Knowledge of the SCSC Comprehensive Performance Framework.
  • Knowledge of GaDOE CCRPI.
  • Ability to read and interpret student academic data and educational reports.
  • Ability to rapidly learn and adapt to new technologies and teaching platforms.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities with attention to deadlines.
  • Strong critical thinking, planning, and writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently, demonstrate initiative, as well as collaborate and communicate effectively within a team.

  • Participate in Milestones assessment training and administration. 
  • Partners with school and district personnel to assist in staffing, training, and hiring activities.
 
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Advanced Degree in Education, Leadership, Special Education, or related field of study 
  • Advanced Excel knowledge and skills
  • Gifted Endorsement, ESOL Certification, and/or Special Education Certification a plus
  • Experience working in a virtual educational environment collecting and interpreting data
  • K-12 educational experience in the form of Teaching, Academic Intervention, or related instructional areas
 
  • Previous experience as a Learning Coach, Advisor, or Teacher at Georgia Cyber Academy
  • Previous experience as an online educator 
  • Proficient with web-based tools
  • Previous experience with online educational tools/curriculum/assessments 
  • Working knowledge of Infinite Campus (SIS)
  • Working knowledge of Canvas (LMS)
  • Working knowledge of Jigsaw Interactive (live classroom tool)
  • Experience using NWEA MAP, Illuminate DnA, WriteScore, FLVS Global, Edgenuity, Discovery Education, Writable, NEWSELA, Legends of Learning, USA Test Prep, IXL, BrainPOP, Edmentum Exact Path, Moby Max, iReady, Classworks, Nearpod, etc.
  • Proficient in use of Zoom conferencing tool

  • This is a Monday through Friday, 8am to 4pm, 5 days/week, and is Primarily Remote.
 
  • This position may require traveling up to 25% of the time. The noise level in the office is usually moderate (computers, printers, light foot traffic). 
 
  • During critical periods, additional in-office days may be required.
  • In-person attendance at professional development, training, conferences, job fairs, meetings, school events, marketing events, and testing sites will be required several times per year.
  • Light lifting required.
