Minimum Qualifications of Education and Experience
Regular and reliable attendance is a necessary component of job/position. Individuals required to use County vehicles and equipment must have a valid driver's license and be free of any major traffic violations for the last three (3) years.
Individuals will be required to complete a pre-employment and any potential post-accident drug test as these positions are deemed safety sensitive. Regardless of Minnesota statute, marijuana and other drugs will disqualify individuals from initial and continued employment.
Desirable Qualifications:
Experience or education in the civil engineering field with a math background, knowledge of road maintenance, painting equipment and traffic control devices and/or ability to operate powered highway equipment.
Nature of Work
Under supervision, assists the transportation division of Public Works. Duties may include: construction inspection, aggregate and other construction materials testing, construction staking, land surveying, mowing, flagging, janitorial work, general road maintenance, bridge maintenance, equipment cleaning, installing and replacing traffic signs and pavement markings. Work may be performed out of the Rochester or Eyota location.

- Observes construction projects

- Performs field measurements and documents pay items

- Assists with project paperwork
- Mows ditches
- Performs flagging
- Performs janitorial work as needed
- Assists with general road maintenance
- Assists with bridge maintenance work
- Cleans and maintains equipment
- Performs field construction staking
- Performs road right of way staking
- Performs topographic surveys
- Assists with the preservation of the Public Land Survey system
- Assists in the use of Robotic Total Station and GPS equipment
- Cleans and maintains equipment
- Fabricates and installs traffic signs
- Repairs and replaces signs and mailboxes
- Installs pavement markings for crosswalks, parking lots, intersections and roads
- Sets up traffic control for construction projects
- Organizes sign truck and shop

- Knowledge of the operating characteristics and maintenance requirements of assigned equipment
- Knowledge of applicable traffic laws, ordinances and regulations
