Our Company:
North Carolina FC Youth (NCFC Youth) is a non-profit youth soccer organization home to more than 15,000 players and their families each year. As part of our operation, NCFC Youth employs approximately 60 full-time staff, hires 200+ seasonal coaches, and manages more than 1,000 volunteer coaches to support year-round programming through seasonal league play, camps, and tournaments. In collaboration with the professional North Carolina Football Club, NCFC Youth is the largest youth-to-professional club in the country. The Position:
TOPS Session Lead Coach is responsible for setting up and leading weekly practice sessions, preparing buddies for each session, coordinating buddy/athlete partnerships, and individualizing activities to meet the needs of each athlete.
Qualifications/Responsibilities:
Weekly Responsibilities
- Review weekly session plans and prepare any materials needed
- Communicate weekly check-in email to parents
- Collaborate with the TOPS Director to manage all coaching conflicts and ensure all sessions have the appropriate coverage
- Ensure all sessions and events are covered by appropriate NCFC Youth staff
- Be vocal, share ideas and make any necessary recommendations to TOPS program
On-Field Tasks
- Set up field with needed layout/materials for the session
- Review weekly session plans with Buddies at the beginning of session
- Lead session activities during training
- Support Buddies to engage players and modify activities to meet each athletes needs
- Be willing to step in and provide coverage when needed for sessions
Organizational Tasks
Roster Management:
- Ensure all athletes are assigned to an appropriate Buddy for each session
- Prepare Buddies when working with a new athlete
Session Planning:
- Follow a given session plan complete with a theme, ample activities, list of needed items, and instructions.
- Attend pre-season meeting with all Session leaders and assistants to review expectations, processes, and sessions
- Attend Buddy training session online or in-person to help ensure Buddy's know their role and responsibilities. Utilize tools provided to ensure it's a good environment for both athletes and buddies.
- Review calendar and session dates, confirm buddy availability, adjust, and communicate effectively to buddies, athletes, parents, NCFC Staff, etc. as needed.
Communication Tasks
Regular Communication:
- Be responsive to all communication including voicemails and emails - Respond within 1 business day
- Email families weekly for upcoming sessions
- Establish open lines of communication with buddies and athletes to connect as needed.
- Responsible for any field closures and communication
Conflict Management
- Meet with parents as needed.
- Meet with program director and assistants as needed to discuss any potential issues/concerns/problems
Additional Responsibilities
- Be prepared to assist with any tasks assigned by the TOPS Director
- Mandatory reporter of abuse. Must report all suspected abuse within 24 hours using the Abuse Prevention Report
Commitment & Compensation:
- There are 7-9 play dates
- Session Lead Coaches are compensated at $500 per season and will be paid at the completion of the season.
Background Requirements:
- Must be able to engage players and generate excitement for each activity at each session
- High School Diploma Required; Bachelor's Degree Preferred
- 2+ Years of Youth Coaching Experience Preferred
- 2+ years working with individuals with disabilities; preferred experience with behavior support
- Requires a background check and risk management training prior to working.
