About Our Head Start Centers

Upbring Head Start Preschool provides a safe, inclusive place to learn, grow and thrive. The families receive support and services to complement the child's education as the kindergarten transition nears.

 

What You'll Do

The Head Start Teacher is responsible for the planning implementation, and administration of curriculum for 3 to 5-year-old children for the purpose of advancing their physical,  cognitive and social emotional  growth and development in accordance with the Minimum Standards for Child Care, the Head Start performance standards, Upbring's school readiness goals, and other federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.  The Head Start Teacher is also responsible for overseeing and providing developmentally appropriate educational skills with positive social interactions for preschool children to foster growth and development utilizing the Early Learning Outcomes and Frameworks (ELOF)domains in a safe and caring environment.

Responsibilities

Work Standards 

  • Teachers and caregivers must always provide active supervision strategies and zoning during indoor and outdoor activities to always keep children safe and secure at all
  • Assess, plan, and implement daily developmental learning models for pre-school aged children that meet individual developmental growth.
  • Create, foster, and maintain a structured environment with classroom management that is conducive for learning and optimal growth and development while  promoting social interactions with all children
  • Develop, implement, and assess an individualized learning plan for all children, including those with diagnosed disabilities
  • Staff must not use/impose corporal punishment or other forms of child maltreatment as a method to discipline children
  • Respond appropriately to emergency situations for immediate resolution
  • Comply with the company code of conduct and other applicable regulations and requirements, including Head Start Program Performance Standards (HSPPS), Upbring policies and procedures, Child Care Minimum Standards, and other federal, state, and local regulatory requirements
  • Always ensure the health and safety of each child in care, and support the overall well-being of children
  • Maintain classroom discipline using developmentally appropriate techniques
  • Fulfill role as mandated reporter as stated in Child Abuse and Neglect Policy
  • Follows the  CLASS  Assessment results by implementing new strategies for classroom environmental growth and professional growth for teachers.
  • Attend all professional development and implement new skills into daily routine
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety requirements of classroom
  • Review and reconcile capital assets and equipment inventory for your assigned classroom annually or upon request.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned

Communication

  • Plan instructional activities, prepare teaching materials and compile/complete related reports as required, such as, but not limited to classroom activities, individual child observations, daily activity charts, and program records for the purpose of documenting child and family activities
  • Provide daily or regular communication (written and/or verbal) with parents/guardians regarding their child's routines, needs, developmental opportunities and daily activity including parent/teacher conferences and home visits
  • Complete and maintain accurate documentation, files, and records as required by Upbring Policy and Procedures, the Head Start Performance Standards, and any other federal, state, or local regulatory requirements
  • Immediately communicate with  Center Director all concerns related to child health and safety

Adaptability

  • Using established curriculum and resources, observe and address challenging behaviors to determine possible cause, implement preventive measures and teach a new appropriate social emotional skill to minimize or eliminate the behavior
  • Respond appropriately to emergency situations for immediate resolution, then report to Center Director or Regional Director for immediate resolution

Teamwork

  • Seek guidance and support from Center Director and other designated support staff for mitigating concerns: inclusive but not limited to classroom management, behavior management, child health and safety, child development, and any other concerns requiring intervention
  • Work closely with Education Team (Teachers, Ed. Coaches, Ed. Coordinators and Center Director) to ensure program operations are supporting and meeting program goals and objectives and learning outcomes
  • Work as part of the team player, exhibit professionalism by modeling Upbring Core Values and and a positive attitude with team-mates and supervisor
  • Model and demonstrate a positive attitude and positive working relationships, while maintaining strong ethical boundaries

Building Relationships

  • Actively participate in sensitivity in both interactions with children, parent(s)/guardian(s), other staff, and community members and in the selection of materials and delivery of instruction
  • Conduct parent-teacher conferences as required by Head Start Standards
  • Conduct home visits as outlined in Head Start Performance Standards
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with all Upbring staff, children, and parents to ensure the  families are receiving a quality learning experience
  • Actively participate in exhibiting cultural awareness and sensitivity when interacting with children, parent(s)/guardian(s), staff, and the community
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development OR 15 credit hours of equivalent coursework if in different field
  • 1 year of experience as a teacher, teacher assistant, or student teacher (6 months experience teacher, teacher assistant, or student teacher if a current Upbring employee)
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement early childhood curriculum
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work and interact with diverse groups of people
  • Ability to build a positive rapport with children, parents/guardians, and team members
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate professionally, interact with all levels of management in a clear and concise manner
  • Strong written and verbal communication, including preparation of quality well written documents
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and projects and meet deadlines
  • Strong computer skills, high proficiency with Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, and Outlook)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Early Childhood Development, Early Childhood Education, or a different field with a minimum of 15 credit hours in these fields of study
  • 3 or more years' experience in early childhood education
  • Experience with inclusion of children with disabilities
  • Knowledge of infant/toddler health and safety licensing requirements
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish) with the ability to fluently converse and write in Spanish (based on student population and service area), highly preferred
  • CPR/First Aid Certification

Physical Demands & Work Conditions

  • This position requires sitting and looking and using a computer for long periods
  • Position may work in a child facility and have limited exposure to children
  • Lift, push, pull or move up to 50 lbs
