Summary
SUMMARY:
This position is considered safety sensitive. Applicants for these positions are required to undergo drug testing prior to employment and subsequent to commencement of employment, will be subject to random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, return to duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing in compliance with Federal DOT alcohol and controlled substance testing program protocols.
Job Summary:
Streetcar O&M Supervisors monitor and supervise Streetcar Operations on the two Streetcar alignments from either First Hill or South Lake Union Base, monitor work assignments, communicate with Streetcar Operators in the field, coordinate service requirements and provide training to Streetcar Operators. They ensure that safety and quality of services are delivered according to standards and that rules are followed.

This position is open to current Career Service King County Metro Employees that successfully have a minimum of one year experience at Seattle Streetcar.

Work Schedule
This position is paid on an hourly (non-exempt) basis and is therefore eligible for overtime pay if scheduled. The work week and scheduled hours may vary. Employees must be able and willing to work any shift (day, swing or graveyard). Work shift is subject to change based on seniority bid system and needs of the business. In addition, this position has on-call responsibilities and must respond to emergency situations as needed.

Job Duties
Applying equity and social justice principles is a daily responsibility and a foundational expectation for all King County employees. We model and apply our equity and social justice shared values, behaviors and practices across all of job duties including but not limited to the following:
  • Field Supervisor: Tasks include conducting fare inspections, ride-checks, assisting passengers, supporting Operators, and occasionally providing relief operation of streetcars. Also assisting in disabled vehicle recovery, towing, and re-railing. Other duties as assigned.
  • Dispatching/Planning: Tasks include performing "fitness for duty" inspections of Operators reporting for work, assigning trains, making up the Extra-Board, and next day's work using HASTUS, our scheduling system. Other duties as assigned.
  • Operations Controller (Supervisor On-Duty): Tasks include answering radio calls from Operators, providing direction to Operators, Field Supervisors, and Maintenance employees for both routine and emergency situations, communicating with Link LCC when required, and other duties described in Streetcar rules, standard operating procedures, and standard maintenance procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as required, including operating streetcars in service when needed.

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
We are looking for people who have the following core competencies:
  • Demonstrated ability to uphold values of respect and fairness while effectively engaging in (and sustaining) relationships with people from diverse cultures and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Skill in problem solving, analyzing, and evaluating service efficiency and quality, and recommending improvements.
  • Skill in organizing work and setting priorities, weighing competing demands and making decisions to maintain service levels.
  • Ability to communicate performance feedback and clarification of duties and standards clearly and effectively with Streetcar Operators, Rail Electro-Mechanics, and other employees.
  • Working knowledge of transit operations rules and standard operating procedures.
  • Working knowledge of safe and proper operation of transit vehicles and their basic mechanical features.
  • Ability to learn and demonstrate knowledge of state and federal rules and regulations related to rail operations, and industrial safety rules and regulations as applied to public transit and rail operation.
  • Skill in oral and written communication; skill in reading, writing, and following detailed instructions.
  • Basic knowledge and skill in the use of Word, Excel, Outlook (or other similar applications) and a web browser; must also be able to learn and use a variety of computer programs.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Minimum 1 year experience at Seattle Streetcar
We are highly interested in applicants who have:
  • At least two years of increasingly responsible experience in a supervisory (or lead) capacity, OR any combination of education or experience that demonstrates the ability to support a team of peers through effective coaching, support, and coordination of resources and services.
  • Proven customer service skills that reflect Metro's commitment to service and the ability to create an environment that supports service excellence.
  • Working knowledge of King County Metro Transit operations, policies, and procedures.
  • A valid Streetcar Operator Rail Card certified for mainline operation.
Necessary Special Requirements
  • Valid Washington State Driver's License and an acceptable driving record.
  • Maintenance of DOT Medical Certification throughout employment (the Certification is issued during our pre-employment process via our physical exam).
  • Ability to acquire and maintain the Streetcar Operator Rail Card, and any additional certifications required.
  • Physical Requirements: Incumbents in these positions will be sitting, handling tools, lifting up to 50 pounds, carrying weight up to forty feet, standing for long periods of time, walking, boarding streetcars, and performing a variety of physical activities.

Selection Process

Record Review (Internal ATU Candidates) - Work Record Calculation Criteria
Work record review calculations will use the candidates most recent 18 months of county employment.
A month of actual employment is defined as a calendar month in which the employee has 15 or more full or partial days.
Work Points Assignment and Screen-out Threshold
Applicants will be screened out of the selection process if the record review totals 15 or more points.
