Job Description
The Scientist, Formulation Research & Development Scientist will act as the subject matter expert and operate in the formulation lab as an independent researcher. You will conceive, implement, and analyze experiments to produce fully independent data. You will be responsible for the formulation and process development of small molecules, microbiome, and large molecule new drug entities (NDEs) from pre-clinical through commercial process validation and process transfers into clinical and commercial manufacturing internal and external sites. You will be responsible for complex decision-making, re-evaluation, optimization, and troubleshooting of methodologies and will lead technical discussions with clients.
Job Functions
- Develop and characterize formulations and processes in order to produce therapeutics in various delivery forms in accordance with project timescales and deadlines
- Produce feasibility batches in accordance with current good laboratory practice (cGLP) and when appropriate current good manufacturing practices (cGMP)
- Prepare for the execution of experiments by using time management skills for each project and the use of proper techniques for data capture and recording, and preparation of reports
- Perform activities relating to the writing of formulation, process and test protocols, Formulation development reports and as needed write and participate in process validation protocols and reports
- Create User Requirement Specification (URS) documents for groups' equipment purchases. Review and participate in FATs. Write and execute IOP/Qs and SOPs for equipment setup, operation, and cleaning as needed
- Participate in and lead investigations for process and formulation deviations, investigations including product testing. and perform problem-solving, testing OOS and OOT. Along with participating in and completing CAPAs in a timely manner
- Liaising with analytical scientists related to testing of formulations produced
- Work with the analytical team to carryout solubility and excipient compatibility studies
- Responsible for the technical transfer of processes developed into the manufacturing group
- Perform other assigned lab duties as requested
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related sciences
- 3+ years' experience performing formulation and process development in a variety of drug delivery systems and small, and large microbiomes NDEs for pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical, or CDMO
- Master's degree in Pharmacy, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related sciences
- 1+ years' experience performing formulation and process development in a variety of drug delivery systems and small, and large microbiomes NDEs for pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical, or CDMO
- OR equivalent combination of education and experience
