Job Title:School Psychologist Intern
Classification: Intern
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:10 am to 3:10 am (including Wednesday professional development)
Location: Havlicek Elementary School and Jefferson Elementary School
Stipend: $20,000, paid monthly
Accountability: Reports to School Principal, Assistant Principal, and District Level Administrators
Primary Function: The School Psychologist Intern contributes to the social, emotional, and academic development of students by assisting with the assessment of students and by collaborating effectively with educators, parents, and community members. This individual will help provide services related to students' social, emotional and life adjustment to school, work and/or society. They will work collaboratively with other school personnel to optimize student achievement.
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor's Degree
- Applicants must be in the final stages of completing their school psychology program
- Enrolled in a master's level school psychology program leading toward state certification/licensure
- Read, write, and speak in Spanish (preferred)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of a certified School Psychologist supervisor, the intern will assist with the following:
- Consultation and Collaboration Collaborate effectively (using a variety of communication modes) with other professionals and parents in planning and decision-making processes at the individual, group, and system level, while maintaining confidentiality and ethical guidelines.
- Data-Based Decision-Making and Accountability Use varied models and methods of assessment that yield information useful in identifying strengths and needs, in understanding problems and in measuring progress to collect data and other information, translate assessment results into empirically-based decisions about service delivery, and evaluate the outcomes of service. Monitor and adjust interventions in response to data.
- Administrative Duties Schedule and complete invitations for initial and re-evaluation multidisciplinary (MDC) meetings. Complete appropriate referral paperwork for upcoming MDCs within compliance of the 60 day due date. Record and update Medicaid/Fee for Service.
- Assessment Conduct formal and informal assessments to determine a student's intellectual abilities, learning needs, achievement levels, emotional and behavioral functioning, and social skills. Evaluate psychometric properties when selecting assessment methods. Interpret and use results to develop intervention and instructional strategies as they relate to general and special education. Communicate findings to school personnel. Conduct individual assessments for students in out-of-district tuition placements due to their level of academic or behavioral need.
- Individualized Education Program (IEP) Design and Case Management Fully participate in the IEP process and monitor implementation. Determine student eligibility for specialized services; manage and coordinate required paperwork.
- Learning and Instruction Provide technical assistance in data management and data interpretation for purposes of program evaluation, benchmarking, and problem-solving. Collaborate with school personnel to develop appropriate academic goals and interventions for students determined to be at risk of academic failure.
- Socialization and Development of Life Skills Assist teachers in developing classroom behavior management interventions. Assist parents and other caregivers with the development and implementation of behavior change in the home.
- Prevention, Crisis Intervention, and Mental Health Evaluate tests and other relevant data to assist in identifying students at risk for academic, behavioral, or emotional problems. Participate in assessment of preschool and periodic on-going screening programs. Have the ability to assist in school-wide or individual student crises and to provide individual and group counseling services to students.
- Home/School/Community Collaborations Work effectively with families, educators, and others in community to promote and provide comprehensive services to children and families. Coordinate psychological service operations with other districts and community agencies, assist in in-service programs and provide up to date developments in the field of school psychology to all stakeholders.
- Research and Program Evaluation Apply knowledge of professional literature and research findings to all aspects of professional practice, including service delivery improvements, program development, and problem-solving. Provide information about relevant research findings to school personnel, parents, and the public.
