POSITION: School Social Worker - Long-Term Sub - 1.0 FTE
LOCATION: MacDonald Middle School
SALARY: $200 per day
WORK YEAR: 12 weeks
START DATE: November 14, 2023 (approximately)
REPORTS TO: Building Principal

GENERAL SUMMARY: Under the direct supervision of the building Principal and in accordance with the established policies and procedures of the East Lansing Public School District, the School Social Worker is responsible for providing a problem-solving service to students, their families and school staff through individual, group, classroom, and community social work interventions.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides individual, group, and classroom support to students.
- Supports building and district-wide behavior initiatives.
- Assists students in learning social skills and developing appropriate peer relations.
- Collaborates with school staff.
- Participates as a member of the district-wide Crisis Intervention Team and the ELPS Mental Health Advisory Committee.
- Supports the implementation of a social-emotional identification, screening and referral process for high school students.
EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Master's degree from a graduate school of social work program approved by the State Board of Education
- Must have attained a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree with State of Michigan licensure
- Demonstrated capabilities in report writing, evaluation, and interview procedures
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary group
- Ability to meet deadlines for reports, forms, and required paperwork
- Demonstrated commitment to professional growth
- Ability and desire to work with a diverse student body with a commitment to providing a positive experience for students and their families regardless of race, culture, creed, religion, handicapping condition, social-economic status, gender or gender identity
