SCHOOL SOCIAL WORKER
QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Clinical Social Worker License preferred.
  2. Pupil Personnel Services credential specializing in School Social work required. .
  3. Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in Social Work or related field
  4. Two years of successful experience as Social Worker in school, community, health, children services or mental health environment
  5. Knowledge and understanding of evidence based best practices in School Social work to promote behavioral, social, emotional health for academic success and positive school climate
  6. Experience and/or training in school district social work, including knowledge of emotional and mental health issues that affect public schools and facilitating and participating in the multi-disciplinary team process
  7. Experience providing individual and family case management including working collaboratively with outside agencies, and providing presentations, trainings, and monitoring programs
  8. Ability to work effectively with staff, students, and public; skill and accuracy in oral and written expression
  9. Valid California driver's license and personal car for use on district business

REPORTS TO: Administrator as assigned
JOB GOAL: To improve mental and emotional health in the educational setting by performing behavioral, social, emotional, and mental health assessments, case management, individual and group therapy, anticipatory guidance, education, preventative health promotion and management of common behavioral, social, emotional and mental health concerns, emotional health, social factors and illnesses. The services enhance school attendance and assist students, families and staff with meeting their behavioral, social, emotional and mental health care needs resulting in overall improved wellness and academic performance and improvement in the school community and a positive school climate.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Provides comprehensive, holistic, behavioral, social, emotional and mental health history and assessments according to established protocols based on current best practices of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW)
  2. Conducts assessments of students, families, and systems/organizations (classroom, school, neighborhood, etc. with goal of improving student social, emotional, behavioral and academic outcomes; uses interventions based on assessment relevant to the concern in the referral including goals, objectives, methods of evaluation and outcome criteria
  3. Understands and uses evidence-informed practices in interventions and service delivery designed to enhance positive education experiences and involve the student, family, other team member, school personnel, and community resources
  4. Provides support to apply intervention in multitier framework and addresses the ecologies (i.e. Home, school, community) most relevant to the problem
  5. Provides case management for students and their families including home visits; provides individual, small and large group therapy in various locations, including home
  6. Provides oversight, case review and monitoring of all case managers with their direct and indirect supervision
  7. Participates in meetings with district staff and outside agencies as necessary to coordinate comprehensive health services for individuals; utilize data to guide service delivery and to evaluate practice regularly to improve and expand services
  8. Maintains records and prepares behavioral, social, emotional and mental health related reports as required by law; provides accurate, timely and complete electronic documentation
  9. Provides training and information regarding district behavioral, social, emotional and mental health related practices, policies, and responsibilities to staff, students, and community members as appropriate.
  10. Collaborates and consults with parents, school staff, physicians, credentialed school nurses and other professionals to assure timely access to needed services, mental health, or other specialties
  11. Evaluates and follows-up on all treatments and referrals in a timely manner according to established protocols
  12. Maintains professional standards of Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act (HIPPA) and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
  13. Serves as resource to teachers, administrators, and community regarding behavioral, social, emotional and mental health matters for students, their families and district staff by providing health education and anticipatory guidance regarding common mental, emotional and behavioral health concerns and utilizes community resource opportunities for the child and/or family and staff.
  14. Interprets behavioral, social, emotional and mental health-related reports for parents, students and staff
  15. Assists as part of school health team to develop plans to provide and enhance district health services, programs and activities; develops applications for alternative funding sources
  16. Assists in the development and revision of clinical protocols and organizational policies
  17. Participates in Quality Improvement initiatives and the School Health Advisory Committee
  18. Explores and assists in addressing behavioral, social, emotional and mental health related attendance problems
  19. Models personal and professional values of equity, integrity, caring, collaboration, personal and collective accountability; ensures all services are provided with context of multicultural understanding and competence
  20. May be required to perform other duties as assigned

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: $139,779 - $170,160 Annually, 223 days (Max. salary includes all longevity and stipends)
NEW PROBATIONARY EMPLOYEES AND PERMANENT EMPLOYEES WHO BECOME PROBATIONARY UPON RECLASSIFICATION:
A new employee, or a permanent employee who is changed to a new classification, shall serve a probationary period, which shall not exceed one (1) year of duty time exclusive of leaves of absence or other absences. During this probationary period the employee must meet the required standards of performance to be recommended for permanent status in the classification. A probationary classified service employee may be terminated from the probationary classification at any time without cause, without right of appeal or hearing before the Board of Education. Pursuant to Education Code section 45113, a permanent employee who accepts a promotion and fails to complete the probationary period for that promotional position, shall be employed in the classification from which he or she was promoted.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Some positions may require proof of privately owned automobile insurance and the possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle operator's license. Fingerprint clearance by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the California Department of Justice is a condition of appointment after all other required job conditions have been met. Must present verification of completion of Child Abuse Mandated Reporter training or obtain verification within six (6) weeks of hire and annually thereafter, as required by the California Child Abuse Neglect Reporting Act.
