The School Safety Coordinator will coordinate and oversee all components related to School Safety and security including emergency response procedures, preparedness, and related professional development.

This is a full-time hybrid position. Ability to work independently, typically 40 hours per week is required. Ability to maintain a professional home office without distraction during workday, typically 8-4 or as defined by the school.

  • Plans and implements statutorily required and Insight PA-necessary safety, security, and preparedness professional development for all employees.
  • Develops all hazards plans, procedures, and objectives to facilitate and improve safety and security programs.
  • Utilizes state-recognized assessments for evaluating plans and security of settings.
  • Ensures development of all plans and protocols and implementation of such are done in conjunction with appropriate trauma-informed and DEI approaches.
  • Implements safety and security protocols to ensure a safe school environment and monitors implementation for compliance.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of School Safety and security programs and develops alternatives for consideration when necessary.
  • Ensures application of safety and security protocols to public events, sports events, and other extracurricular activities.
  • Recommends and implements procedures and best practices to prevent and deter violence during online school and school-related activities and events.
  • Completes all state-required safety related reports.
  • Administers or works with the Director of Compliance to administer and monitor all safety related grants.
  • Researches and recommends additions and improvements to the safety management program, particularly in areas such as emergency preparedness, accident prevention, general safety, and risk management.
  • Coordinates with local law enforcement and other appropriate health and safety professionals in matters of public safety involving students and staff.
  • Coordinates with school’s public information officer (Director of Communication) to craft/review press releases and community communications related to safety and security.
  • Coordinates with school leadership, at a variety of levels, to advise on School Safety and security matters.
  • Maintains up-to-date understanding of state and national School Safety approaches, trends, and plans and briefs leadership team and provides recommendations for updates related to the changes.
  • Serves as initial point of contact for Safe2Say calls.
  • Serves on the SAP Team and the Crisis Response Team.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of security and surveillance equipment on site and at off-site events.
  • Prepares and monitors departmental budget.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no regular supervisory responsibilities.

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • Five (5) years of relevant law enforcement, School Safety, or related work experience
  • High school diploma

Minimum Required Skill Set

  • Demonstrated excellent knowledge of School Safety and emergency preparedness
  • Great organizational and time management skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to capably speak in front of large groups of employees/students and inform/educate them on School Safety matters
  • Adaptable technology skills
  • Experience using search engines (internet) for research projects
  • Experience using a student information system and/or other type of database
  • Demonstrated competencies with general technology, Microsoft Office Platforms (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.), Google Platforms, Zoom, etc.
  • All clearances and background checks as required to work in a Pennsylvania public school

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ten (10) years of relevant law enforcement, School Safety, or related work experience
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree
  • Completed PA Act 120 police training or similar program
  • Completed NIMS training (ICS-100, 200, 300, 400, 700, and 800) or ability to attain
  • Completed ALICE training or ability to attain
  • Completed Stop The Bleed training or ability to attain
  • Completed PA Act 67 training for SPO, SRO, or School Security Guards or NASRO SRO training or ability to attain

Certificates and Licenses

  • Driver’s license required

Work Environment

  • While the “desk work” associated with this position can be done remotely, this position requires the incumbent to have the flexibility to report to the office (Exton, PA) and other locations around Pennsylvania as needed.
  • The noise level in the office is usually moderate (computers, printers, light foot traffic).
  • This position will include limited travel and will include limited overnight travel. Travel will be required for community events, professional development, home visits, and state testing. This is estimated to be less than 30% of the time in the aggregate over a year. Over the course of a school year, there will be periods of time when travel requirements happen with greater frequency than others. As an example, during the state-testing month of May, the incumbent may be traveling 4 out of the 5 days in a week to visit different testing sites, but during another month, there may be no requirements to be at a site.
