Job Summary:
The School Registered Nurse is responsible for promoting and maintaining the health and well-being of students, staff, and faculty within the school environment. This includes providing direct health care services, managing health records, and implementing health education programs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Health Assessments:
Conduct health assessments for students to identify medical conditions, allergies, and special health needs.
Collaborate with parents, teachers, and healthcare providers to gather relevant health information.
First Aid and Emergency Care:
Provide immediate first aid and emergency care for injuries and sudden illnesses.
Collaborate with emergency services and coordinate emergency response plans.
Medication Administration:
Administer prescribed medications to students according to medical protocols.
Maintain accurate records of medication administration and monitor medication compliance.
Health Education:
Educate students on topics such as nutrition, hygiene, and preventive health measures.
Conduct workshops or programs on issues like substance abuse prevention and mental health awareness.
Immunization Compliance:
Ensure students meet required immunization standards.
Maintain accurate records of immunizations and communicate with parents about vaccination requirements.
Collaboration with School Staff:
Work closely with teachers, administrators, and other school staff to address health-related concerns.
Participate in Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings for students with special health needs.
Health Screenings:
Conduct health screenings, including vision and hearing tests, to identify potential health issues.
Refer students for further evaluation when necessary.
Communication with Parents:
Communicate with parents or guardians regarding students' health concerns and provide updates on health-related issues.
Collaborate with parents to develop and implement individualized health care plans.
Health Records Maintenance:
Keep accurate and confidential health records for each student.
Document health-related incidents and maintain compliance with privacy regulations.
Health Promotion Programs:
Develop and implement health promotion programs to encourage healthy lifestyle choices.
Foster a supportive and healthy school environment for students and staff.
Qualifications:
- Registered Nurse (RN) licensure.
- CPR and First Aid certification.
- Experience in pediatric or school nursing is preferred.
- Knowledge of state and federal health regulations and school health policies.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
