REPORTS TO: School Psychologist
SUPERVISES: None
EVALUATION: Evaluated by a licensed School Psychologist in accordance with the internship program
OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION
To provide excellence in education by assisting teachers, parents and administrators with identifying, assessing and developing effective alternatives for students experiencing difficulty in learning and behavioral areas.
RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES
Under the direct supervision of a licensed School Psychologist, the intern will support an array of evaluative, direct, and consultative/collaborative services to enhance the educational outcomes of students enrolled in Lake Bluff School District.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Possesses knowledge of District policies and regulations relating to areas of responsibilities.
- Participates in Student Services Team meetings for possible identification of screening candidates.
- Facilitate IEP domain meetings and maintain compliance for (re)-evaluations.
- Provide therapeutic intervention/counseling for students with social/emotional/behavioral needs.
- Social skills intervention/training, both indirect and direct counseling supports(using social cognitive or behavioral methods based on students' abilities).
- Academic support (consultation to develop interventions and monitor effectiveness).
- Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA) and Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) development.
- 504 Plan Eligibility and Development.
- Participates in all staff conferences of students having received psychological evaluation or re-evaluation, including hospital discharge.
- Provides consultation to teachers, related service staff members, administrators, and parents regarding assessment and interpretation.
- Demonstrates knowledge of special education legislation and acts in accordance with those mandates; follows policies and procedures of the District.
- Reports incidents (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment, and adhering to District and/or school policies.
- Participate in the District problem solving process.
- Presents in-service and training opportunities to educational personnel, parents and community members.
- Provides expertise in the areas of research methodology and design, program development, and program.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- ?Participates in various meetings (e.g. parent conferences, in-service training, site meetings, etc.) for the purpose of receiving and/or providing information and/or meeting legal requirements.
- Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as desired.
- Be knowledgeable about and follow legal requirements and ethical codes of the profession.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
Endorsement from a NASP and CAEP approved university program (Verified through ISBE form 73-44 "Notification of School Service Personnel Intern Eligibility Status")
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to actively perform work in classroom, office and other business and community settings. Ability to move freely and perform duties in numerous locations throughout the day (typically involving frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending and lifting). Exposure to noise and activity of a school setting. Exposure to weather conditions. Ability to travel outside the district for a variety of meetings and conferences.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Salary and benefits: $20,000 plus 5 paid sick days
