The HR Associate is the department's assistance for all aspects of faculty recruitment and all SON-specific onboarding. The incumbent is accountable for the talent acquisition of faculty to increase the diversity of our employees through active sourcing, developing partnerships, and initiating and participating in targeted marketing campaigns. The HR Associate works alongside central OHSU offices and SON hiring managers to develop recruitment plans, ensure the accuracy of postings, and implement strategic diversity initiatives. The incumbent manages the intake process from requisition to the SON onboarding of all new employees. They also provide general information about and assistance for the SON. The incumbent may be assigned to participate in workgroups and help implement strategic initiatives. All members of the SON HR team regularly interface with other OHSU service centers including HR Records, Payroll, Benefits, Transportation & Parking, and other HR service groups.
The successful candidate possesses the ability to multitask and process high volumes of paperwork with accuracy; sound judgment and thinking; a high degree of accountability; demonstrated success sourcing hard-to-fill positions; strong communication and relational skills; a commitment to workplace diversity, and a desire to participate as part of the OHSU team to equalize the hiring process.
Function/Duties of Position
Recruitment, Hiring, & Onboarding: 75%; Generalist Administration: 15%; Training & Development: 10%
- Provides full-service faculty recruitment to the School of Nursing
- Ensures equity best practices are followed in the hiring process
- Onboards all new hires (faculty, staff and student workers) to School of Nursing
- Delivers SON Orientation for New Hires
- Develops and delivers training and tools for managers and employees on SON HR matters
- Develops and maintains process documents
- Provides support and back-up to SON HR and Administrative teams on HR matters
Required Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree in a related field, OR equivalent education/experience
- Two (2) years of professional experience in HR or recruitment.
- Experience that demonstrates the ability to proactively source candidates for hard-to-fill positions (e.g. creating recruitment plans, using LinkedIn Recruiter, database mining, outreach to passive candidates, etc.)
- Experience working in a confidential environment both independently and with teams.
- Demonstrated communication skills including the ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds, as well as the ability to effectively diffuse upset or angry persons.
- Ability to efficiently and effectively multi-task and manage many competing demands.
- Knowledge of recruitment strategies, candidate sourcing, and effective advertising.
- Knowledge of trends, systems, and techniques that contribute to the effective management of talent acquisition processes, including but not limited to behavioral-based interviewing and selection methods.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working in a collective bargaining environment.
- Experience working in an academic environment.
- Previous experience recruiting and sourcing faculty or academic positions.
- Experience interviewing, recruiting, and delivering wage offers for positions.
- Experience working with hiring managers and organizations to strategize employment needs.
- Experience training managers on recruitment and retention strategies.
- Experience working on search committees and best practices around interviewing and candidate selection.
- Working knowledge of state and federal employment laws.
- Knowledge of collective bargaining agreements.

This position is eligible for hybrid remote work. Hybrid remote positions are defined as those that include work that can be performed remotely and essential functions that must be performed at an OHSU Work Site. These functions include but are not limited to backup coverage for other team members, on-site meetings, events, and training; and any time the supervisor requests an on-site presence. New hires in this role can be expected to be in the office 2-3 days per week.
Standard office cubical environment with multiple interruptions. Occasional travel to regional campuses and for recruitment events may be required.
