Spartanburg Day School is currently seeking a School Counselor for the 2024 -2025 school year. The counselor is responsible for providing counseling services to students and families, and facilitating support for the emotional well being of The Spartanburg Day School community. The School Counselor will support the social, emotional wellness, and academic needs of students by offering services in a developmentally appropriate manner.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The counselor provides support services through many avenues including work with classes, small groups and individuals. The counselor will communicate and coordinate plans between students, teachers, parents, faculty and/or professionals as needed to support the social/emotional needs of the students.
- To provide leadership in planning, developing, and implementing guidance programs for students and parents in grades 2K-12
- To monitor the social and emotional health of students in grades 3K-12
- To support and guide teachers in addressing the social and emotional needs of the students in grades 3K-12
- To support and guide parents of students by identifying and addressing the social and emotional issues they encounter
SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Student Relationships:
- Conduct limited individual 1:1 student counseling that includes conflict resolution between students, crisis management, and classroom behavioral management.
- Participate in student assessments that require counseling input.
- Attend grade level and divisional faculty meetings as needed.
- Participate in the successful transition of new students.
Parent/Community Relationships
- Serve as liaison between/among community resources as well as other counseling related professionals
- Facilitate and implement parent education meetings
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to create a caring community
- Willingness and desire to be a part of the life of the school outside of school day hours
QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in counseling, psychology, or social work
- Experience in school counseling; independent school preferred
- 3 to 5 years of experience
- Effective communicator and problem solving skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
