SalaryWorking from home the School Counselor will plan, supervise and provide professional guidance designed to help each student establish a strong academic, social, emotional and physical foundation in the virtual environment so that they may be successful in school and life in the future. Provides prevention, intervention and crisis counseling services, and personal and academic support and assistance to students as appropriate. Ensures the maintenance of accurate, up-to-date and confidential student records, including State of SC transcripts.
*Valid SC School Counselor Certification is required*
Essential functions of the job may include but are not limited to the following:
- Ability to conduct lessons in each teacher's classroom and/or systematically conduct developmental counseling programs for each grade level in the school throughout the year
- Consult with and/or provide resources to teachers to facilitate their teaching of counseling content in their regular lessons
- Work with teachers in preparation for students' transition from one school to another
- Coordinate and upload NCAA transcripts and maintain NCAA documentation
- Organize and enroll students in credit recovery and/or Virtual SC courses
- Work with the graduation coach to monitor student graduation progress
- Individual Graduation Planning for students
- Conduct, coordinate, oversee career awareness activities
- Conduct goal-oriented counseling sessions in systematic response to the identified needs of individuals or groups of students
- Assume an advocate role in designing, implementing, monitoring, and adjusting education plans for individual students
- Participate in student intervention/assessment meetings
- Be a resource person for faculty, staff, and parents
- Conduct or provide opportunities for parent-education programs
- Assist families with school-related problems (Canvas, Zoom, navigating courses, etc.)
- Serve as a student advocate and resource for guidance/counseling issues and concerns
- Consult with parents regarding referrals when appropriate
- Act as an advocate for groups or individual students as system decisions are made
- Document and evaluate guidance-learning activities as they are implemented
- Complete an annual counseling-program evaluation and follow-up studies on recent graduates
Create and support schedule changes, transcript audits, new student scheduling, withdrawals, record requests, and ensure that student academic records are accurate
- State testing support
- Attend district, state, and locally sponsored staff-development offerings, as assigned
Job Requirements
- Valid South Carolina School Counselor certificate
- Master's degree in counseling is required
- Leadership and team collaboration skills
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
- Strong planning and problem solving skills
- Must have the ability and proven ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis
- Perform all other related work delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the total school program
- Knowledge and implementation of relevant technology
- Meet professional teacher education requirements of school, district and state
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google
- Ability to learn new technologies
- Ability to work remotely
- Some travel is required for school-related business such as state testing, school events, professional development, and staff meetings
- Overnight travel may be required
- Ability to work a regular eight-hour day during regular school hours. Childcare is required
