Reports to: Assistant Principal for Pupil Personnel Services
Position Summary: Helps students overcome problems that impede learning and assists them in making educational, occupational, and life plans that hold promise for their personal fulfillment as mature responsible men and women.
Role qualifications:
- Must hold a current Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a School Counselor endorsement
- Three years of successful teaching experience in public education preferred
Position Responsibilities:
- Counsels students new to the school and orients them to school procedures and the school's varied opportunities for learning.
- Develops a four-year plan for instruction for each entering freshman.
- Provides student information to colleges and potential employers within the provision of the Board's policy on student records.
- Counsels students in course selections.
- Provides college/career counseling for students.
- Makes recommendations to colleges for admissions and scholarships.
- Guides students in their participation in school and community activity.
- Obtains and disseminates occupational information to individual students and to group guidance participants.
- Works to resolve students' educational handicaps.
- Works to discover and develop special abilities of students.
- Works to prevent students from dropping out of school.
- Helps students evaluate career interests and choices.
- Works with students on an individual basis in the solution of academic problems related to home and family relations, health, and emotional adjustment.
- Attends multidisciplinary conferences on placement of individual students as requested by the Administration.
- Confers with parents whenever necessary.
- Interprets the guidance program to the community.
- Strives to maintain professional competence.
- Strives to improve professional competence.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Assistant Principal or designee.

- Physical demands: While performing duties of job, employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Terms of Employment:
- Tentatively November 2023 - June 2024
- Starting annual salary between $51,958 and $92,629 (prorated based on start date)
- Teachers Retirement System of Illinois (TRS) pension
- 55 minute duty-free lunch (45 minutes on Wednesdays)
