Program Description:
ChiArts hosts an annual three-week summer camp designed for students in grades 6-8 to explore the artistic disciplines of Band, Creative Writing, Dance, Vocal Music, Theatre, and Visual Arts in a joyful and nurturing environment, led by artists from The Chicago High School for the Arts. Campers will receive pre-professional training in the arts from ChiArts faculty and alumni teaching artists.
Job Summary:
The Camp Counselor will be the assistant to the Co- co-camp directors during Summer Camp. This person will need to be available for various tasks with students and around the building.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assisting with arrivals and departures of students
- Supervising students during breaks and lunch periods
- Rotate among rooms to ensure safety
- Assist with preparations for performances mid-camp and the camp finale
- Leave campus to get food for student helpers
- Communicate with parents and teachers
Qualifications:
- Must be able to commit to working for the entire three weeks of camp July 8-26th, Monday-Friday, 9:00 am-2:00 pm as well as a training session in June
- Prior experience working with children in activities, such as those at a camp, daycare, or school preferred
- Must be able to remain calm under pressure and be able to solve problems as they arise
- Step into classrooms to assist with particular projects or lessons
- Must be enthusiastic, energetic, and have excellent communication skills
- Organization, punctuality, and a dedication to working with children is essential
- Commitment to sharing and learning through the arts and the ChiArts mission
