    Job Summary:
    School counselors are responsible to implement a comprehensive school counseling program based on district goals and objectives, Utah State Board of Education Counseling Program Assurances, the Seven Standards of the Utah Model for Comprehensive Counseling, and the College Board’s Eight Components of College and Career Readiness Counseling.
    Essential Functions:
    • Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of a school’s comprehensive counseling and guidance program.
    • Deliver a school counseling program to meet the individual and diverse needs of all students through College and Career Readiness (CCR) individual planning, collaborative classroom curriculum, and responsive services.
    • Adhere to professional and ethical standards outlined by the American School Counseling Association (ASCA) and Granite School District.
    • Advocate for equity for all students regardless of economic status or backgrounds.
    • Align school schedules with students’ abilities and interests.
    • Guide and counsel students through the development of their individual College and Career Readiness Plans (CCR-Plans).
    • Involve parents in students’ CCR-Planning process.
    • Consult and collaborate with teachers, staff, and parents to positively address needs of students.
    • Participate in the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) process to identify and create interventions for students with critical needs.
    • Teach curriculum utilizing effective instructional strategies with emphasis on college and career readiness components.
    • Interpret achievement, interest, and aptitude assessment data to students and parents.
    • Provide responsive services to students (and families) in crisis.
    • Provide accurate information about college and career readiness to students and families.
    • Gain a knowledge of school, district, and community resources and programs, and effectively and equitably disseminate information to students, parents, and school staff.
    • Document and analyze data for program management and promoting equitable access to programs.
    • Maintain appropriate notes and records in the district student information system.
    • Effectively organize time and follow through with tasks.
    • Enjoy working with students, families, and the school community.

    Non-Essential Functions:
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Required Knowledge and Skills:
    • Possess strong oral and written communication skills.
    • Possess strong computer and educational technological skills.
    • Works independently with little direct supervision.
    • Works as part of a team.
    • Accepts responsibility and is self-motivated.
    • Display effective multi-tasking and time management skills

    Required Education and Qualifications:
    • Requires a Utah State Board of Education (USBE) cleared criminal background check.
    • Requires a master's degree or higher from a regionally accredited college or university.
    • Requires one of the following:
      • a valid Professional Educator License issued by the Utah State Board of Education with a School Counselor License Area of Concentration;
      • an equivalent license in another state or country; or
      • verification of completion of an accredited program prior to the date of hire that will result in one of the licenses listed above.

    New program graduates who have not yet received their license must upload a conferral letter from their university program in lieu of their license. This letter must include the anticipated date of graduation and the specific areas in which the applicant will be licensed.
    Working Environment:
    • Supervision of students requires both indoor and outdoor responsibilities (e.g. recess duty, gymnasium activities, etc.) in all types of weather and air quality.
    • Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.

    Physical Demands:
    This list of essential and marginal functions and of physical requirements is not exhaustive and may be supplemented in accordance with the requirements of the job.
    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak and/or hear.
    • The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, and crouch.
    • The employee is occasionally required to use hands to handle or feel objects and must occasionally climb or balance.
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
    • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
