Job Title: Kids Power Club Staff / School-age Childcare Staff
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Reports to: Early Childhood Education Center Director

Position Summary
The YMCA Kid’s Power Club Staff /School-age Childcare Staff person is responsible for the overall supervision of the children on site and enrolled in our program. KPC staff will assist in planning, leading, and evaluating group experiences with the children. This position operates at the YMCA. The incumbent provides high quality recreational and classroom fun experiences for children that focus on the YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

Essential Functions
  • Plan, develop, supervise, and implement the program activities.
  • Assist the Coordinator with curriculum planning/prepping for gym activities, outside activities, field trips, STEAM and light classroom fun.
  • Supervise and interact with the children in the program in a safe and appropriate manner.
  • Assist Coordinator and Director in developing and distributing parent communications through e-mails or phone calls if needed.
  • Assist with the promotion of the Branch and childcare programs to the community.
  • Assist Coordinator in obtaining and updating all registrations, contracts, release forms, and emergency forms that pertain to administration of the Y School age program.
  • Assist Coordinator in managing required program records such as attendance, daily schedules, and rosters.
  • Uphold all YMCA policies and procedures in a respectful and positive manner.
  • Participate in staff meetings and professional development events.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position will work in conjunction with the School-age Coordinator and ECEC Director or Assistant Director to carryout daily interactions with children in our program in compliance with licensing certification and follow through of daily and required tasks.
Required Education and Experience
  • High School Classes or Diploma/GED/Equivalent
  • Must be16 years of age or older
  • Excellent skills in planning activities for various ages, staff supervision and development, communication, organization, and human relations.
  • Commitment to working with children in a recreational setting.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks under limited supervision and work well in a team setting.
  • Possess a positive and professional attitude.
  • Must be self- directed, motivated, and creative.
  • Willingness to commit to the mission of the YMCA.
  • CPR/AED, First Aid, Child Abuse Prevention, and Bloodborne Pathogens certifications (within 30 days of hire).

Preferred Education and Experience
  • Degree in early childhood education or 1 year of experience in the school-age, early childhood education or child development field.
Work Environment
This job operates in a typical classroom environment equipped with desks, chairs, toys, and other classroom equipment. Staff will interact with children in childcare learning classrooms regularly for a majority of their day, as well as outside and on field trips.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Participant must be able to be engaged in activities that may include running, throwing, and kicking. Participants will be required to wade in the water and or accompany and supervise the children in the pool. Participants will be required to go on long walks in town with the children and be actively engaged with the children at parks and on field trips.
The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This position can be part-time or full-time and the hours will depend on the needs of the department. Hours of operation for this program is 6am – 6pm.
Travel
Will be required to travel on a bus with the children on field trips. Will also be required to walk and be outside with the children for the better part of the morning/day. Must have reliable transportation plan to get to work on time for shifts.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
  • Must be able to successfully pass a background check through NetStudy2.0 (State Licensing Required Study).
