Reporting to the Research Impact Librarian in the Department of Research Data and Open Scholarship, the Scholarly Publishing Specialist works with digital publishing platforms, software, and tools that support the preservation, dissemination, and access to research and scholarship produced at the University of Miami. This includes, but is not limited to, the institutional repository and research information hub, Scholarship@Miami (Esploro), journal publishing platform(s) supported by the Libraries, and initiatives related to digital scholarship and open access.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Estimated percentages: 60% Scholarship@Miami (Esploro) support, 20% journal publishing support, 10% other duties as assigned, 5% training, and 5% service.
Performance:
- Provide ongoing support for the institutional repository and research information hub, Scholarship@Miami (Esploro) and journal publishing platforms supported by the Libraries.
- Provide ongoing day-to-day support for Scholarship@Miami, including faculty profile correction requests; adding and maintaining research assets (e.g., linking publications to grants); examining, cleaning, and improving AI-captured information; quality assurance and data cleaning; maintaining records of users for digital publishing tools; and cleaning and closing obsolete accounts.
- Perform ongoing maintenance of records in faculty profiles; update and correct citations and grant information in faculty profiles, as requested.
- Support Research Analytics & Impact Services faculty in departmental efforts to promote use of the institutional repository(s) and journal publishing platform and related services to faculty and staff.
- Serve as primary contact point for users interested in utilizing the journal publishing platform. Provide ongoing support and consultative services for journal publishing including serving as a liaison between editors and the platform vendor.
- Serve as the primary contact point for vendor(s) of publishing platforms.
- Provide instruction and training in the use of the various publishing platforms, including context-dependent guidance on the best platform for research output.
- In close collaboration with the Scholarly Communications Librarian for the Performing Arts & Humanities and Research Impact Librarian, provide support for the visibility and discoverability of research output of UM faculty, researchers, and students.
- Provide support to users in determining rights to deposit material into Scholarship@Miami, including contacting publishers to determine permissions.
- Collaborate with the Scholarly Communications Librarian for the Performing Arts & Humanities and Research Impact Librarian to develop memorandums of understanding and other written agreements that help clarify effective use policies.
- Collaborate with the Research Data Scientist to deposit research data and associated materials into appropriate repositories.
- Support the Research Impact Librarian in developing and promoting departmental efforts regarding the Electronic Thesis and Dissertation (ETD) program.
- In collaboration with the Research Impact Librarian, consult with graduate students on issues related to the deposit of ETDs.
- Where appropriate, use and integrate data analytical tools (e.g., Cognito) into Scholarly Publishing & Impact Services workflow.
- Maintain awareness in trends in policies, tools, and technologies in support of digital publishing.
- Work with library faculty and key stakeholders to develop and improve web content related to the Scholarly Publishing component of Research Analytics & Impact Services.
- Other job duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Two years of relevant work experience. Any relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered.
- Comfortable learning and working with different technologies and tools.
- Demonstrated ability to work quickly and accurately in a service and production-oriented environment and adapt to changing trends.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, meet deadlines, and establish appropriate priorities, as driven by operational, developmental, and managerial needs.
Highly desirable:
- Experience working in an academic research library environment.
- Awareness of current issues and trends in the repository platforms.
- Familiarity with authors’ rights and public copyright license
