GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Responsible for accurately performing the pre-access functions for scheduled patients, which includes scheduling outpatient diagnostic procedures and completing the pre-registration and insurance verification processes. Responsible for accurately performing verification of benefits. Arranges for the efficient and orderly pre-admission. Ensures that patient information is collected and that patients are aware of our policies and procedures. Interviews incoming patient or representatives and enters information required for admission into computer database. Distributes appropriate information to other departments as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Greets, instructs, directs, and schedules patients and completes open orders at check out in a prompt courteous manner.
Answer phones or patient portal to schedule all patient procedures and radiology exams requested in gGastro orders and/or task.
Maintains all providers’ center blocks. Will make sure schedules are full.
Responsible for obtaining and ensuring correct coding and entering patients’ pre-authorizations.
Verifies patient insurance eligibility and benefits for all appointments. Accurately enters this data per the documentation policy into the appointment notes and or the details box of each appointment and or patient account.
Answers emails, telephone calls and voice mail daily.
Follow practice procedures when patients present without a required referral or when a patient has a deductible, co-pay, and/or co-insurance greater than $300.00.
Communicate with PCP office to obtain referrals and additional information.
Obtain authorizations and tertiary referrals for services from health plans when needed.
Serves as liaison to communicate changes, restrictions and updates to management and staff.
All other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:
- Must have a high school diploma or G.E.D.
EXPERIENCE/SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE:
- Prefer one-year work experience in a medical setting.
- Knowledge of medical terminology desirable.
- Word processing and computer experience required.
- Proficient in English grammar and spelling with the ability to speak clear and concise in both written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of coding, compliance, or insurance reimbursement preferred.
- Ability to manage time and multitask effectively.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have reliable transportation that allows you the ability to go between various locations as needed and necessary

ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
· Non-Clinical – Typical office working environment conditions with occasional lifting requirements of up to 30 lbs. This position requires the ability to access all areas of the organization which could mean minimal exposure to potentially hazardous working environments.
