Job Summary

This position will work with the Senior Credit Officer as part of the SBA Portfolio Management team handling all aspects of the special asset loans in the bank’s government guaranteed loan portfolio.  This position will handle all the associated monitoring of the portfolio and working with partners to make strategic decisions on payment deferments, workouts, liquidation/foreclosure proceedings and bankruptcy cases all within the context of the SBA SOP.  This position will be responsible for providing a high level of customer service and communication with all parties involved including Bank partners, customers, attorneys, and the SBA. Additionally, this position will be responsible for the internal risk grade management, impairment, reserve and charge off calculations for all designated special asset loans.  This position must have an understanding of all SBA SOP and associated liquidation forms/packages.

 

Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions

  • Actively manages Risk Grade 6 or worse government guaranteed loans with direct responsibility for risk grades, action plans, servicing actions through Forbearance Agreements, Deed-in-Lieu, liquidation, foreclosure, and other actions as needed through wrap up or through repair and upgrade to a pass grade.
  • Serves as the primary contact for all communication with the SBA BDO’s, borrowers and third parties for these loans.
  • Conducts liquidation activities such as Auctions/Foreclosures and Pursuit of Personal Guarantors.
  • Executes servicing actions in a timely manner within the SBA SOP and FTA requirements, directly responsible for creating and submitting:
    • Draft and Issue Demand Letters on delinquent loans
    • Submission of Secondary Market Repurchase for loans entering liquidation
    • Prepare timely and compliant Guaranty Purchase Package for submission to SBA Center
    • Order any necessary third-party reports and effectively manage third party vendors
    • Conclude liquidation activities with SBA via Wrap Up/CPC Reports
    • Interfaces directly with SBA Servicing Center staff
  • Adheres to all corporate policies and procedures, Federal and State regulations and laws.
  • Completes all mandatory annual compliance training.
  • Follows regulatory requirements including those pertaining to the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Customer Identification Program (CIP), and OFAC to assist in the identification, detection and determent of money laundering and other unlawful activities, as well as regulations pertaining to lending and consumer compliance to include fair lending laws.
  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned

 

Job Requirements

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Required:

  • 5+ years of related experience, including 3+ years of experience in SBA/USDA portfolio management and workouts.
  • Understanding of the SBA SOP and associated liquidation forms/packages.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills and ability to work independently to meet deadlines while managing multiple projects and processes.
  • Accessible to staff and works with a sense of urgency.
  • Familiarity with all federal and state banking regulations pertaining to lending and consumer compliance, including fair lending laws.
  • Must be a creative and solution-oriented problem solver/decision maker who is able to solve complex problems while adhering to prudent credit management practices, credit policies, regulations, and bank goals.
  • Adopts an anticipatory rather than reactionary approach to managing credit and process risk.
  • Able to obtain and maintain a comprehensive knowledge of the SBA and USDA lending programs and other government guaranty programs.
  • Able to articulate the key financial trends, borrower, guarantor, and global cash flows along with the key non-financial risks of the credit into a well-organized narrative credit analysis with little to no guidance necessary.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting or Finance
  • Experience in commercial loan documentation
