Job description

Department Overview

We seek applications from motivated MDs/DOs looking for an Assistant Professor position to focus on clinical and/or translational sarcoma research. Mentorship from Drs. Mike Heinrich, Chris Ryan and Lara Davis make this an exciting opportunity for a junior faculty member interested in a sarcoma career.

As the only sarcoma center in the state, OHSU cares for a very high volume of complex sarcoma cases.

Clinical and translational sarcoma research opportunities abound at the Knight Cancer Institute. The Sarcoma Program boasts a large clinical trials portfolio, including cooperative group (SWOG & SARC), industry and investigator-initiated trials. In addition, the Sarcoma Program is one of 5 disease sites included in the Precision Oncology SMMART Program, a comprehensive translational and clinical research platform.

Our weekly sarcoma tumor board provides multidisciplinary review, with active participation of medical oncology, pediatric oncology, orthopedic oncology, radiation oncology, surgical oncology, pathology and radiology. Each specialty is represented at tumor board by experts in sarcoma.

The Division of Hematology & Medical Oncology currently has over 110 faculty and is comprised of programs in the general hematology, solid tumor oncology, bone marrow transplant & cellular therapy, hematological malignancies, and palliative medicine. The Division also oversees faculty in a number of community practices, known as Community Hematology and Oncology (CHO), and maintains a strong collaboration with the VA Medical Center, linked to the main campus by a skybridge. Our clinical practices enroll more than 5,000 new patients each year.

The Division, the largest component of the Knight Cancer Institute, has a goal of providing outstanding patient care, ensuring access to high quality clinical and translational clinical trials, and integration of basic research. The Division has grown significantly over the past decade, and significant growth is projected.

The OHSU Knight Cancer Institute is an international leader in research and cancer treatment. We offer unprecedented resources to transform cancer early detection, diagnosis, intervention, and treatment, supported by the successful conclusion of a $1 billion fundraising campaign completed in 2015. Known as one of the pioneers in personalized cancer medicine and early detection, the Knight Cancer Institute creates an environment that encourages visionary leadership and dedicated teamwork in support of ending cancer as we know it. Our vision is a world freed from the burden of cancer, and our guiding principles remind us we are a bold, supportive, and connected team.
